2022 Marshall Thundering Herd Men's Soccer Team
The 2022 Marshall Thundering Herd men's soccer team represented Marshall University in men's college soccer during the 2022 NCAA Division I men's soccer season. It was the 44th season the university fielded a men's varsity soccer program. The Thundering Herd, led by sixth-year head coach Chris Grassie, played their home games at Veterans Memorial Soccer Complex as members of the Sun Belt Conference (SBC). The Thundering Herd played in the inaugural eight team College Spring League during the 2022 spring season, ultimately winning the championship match held in Columbus, Ohio at Historic Crew Stadium vs. Bowling Green, 2-1. Chris Grassie
Chris Grassie (born 21 September 1978) is an English Association football, football coach who is currently the head coach of the Marshall University Marshall Thundering Herd men's soccer, men's soccer team. During his tenure as coach of the Herd, he led the program to 3 Conference USA trophies, 1 Sun Belt Conference trophy, and the 2020 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Tournament, 2020 NCAA National Championship. Playing career As a player at Alderson Broaddus University, Alderson Broaddus, Grassie was named to the all-conference team multiple times and was a team captain. He majored in political science and history. Grassie played in England from 2002 to 2003 with Northwich Victoria F.C. Coaching career Grassie began his coaching career as an assistant at his alma mater, Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia. The team is a member of the Coastal Athletic Association (CAA), which is part of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's Division I. The team was founded in 1972 as a member of the NAIA. In 1989, the team moved to NCAA Division II and finally to NCAA Division I in 1999. The program is currently under the direction of head coach Marc Reeves. Elon Soccer won its first conference championship in 2008, the Southern Conference regular season. This was followed up in 2009 with the team's first appearance in the SoCon Championship game.
