2022 Iowa Elections
A general election was held in the U.S. state of Iowa on November 8, 2022. All of Iowa's executive officers were up for election, as well as a United States Senate seat, all four of Iowa's seats in the United States House of Representatives, 25 (half) of the seats in the Iowa Senate, and all 100 seats in the Iowa House of Representatives. Partisan primary, Primary elections were held on June 7, 2022. The Republican Party of Iowa had a very successful election. All three statewide incumbent Republicans (Kim Reynolds, governor, Mike Naig, secretary of agriculture, and Paul Pate, secretary of state) won reelection by more than 18%, two of three statewide incumbent Democrats (Tom Miller (politician), 28-year incumbent attorney general and Michael Fitzgerald (Iowa politician), 40-year incumbent treasurer) lost to Republican challengers, and the remaining incumbent Democrat (Rob Sand, 4-year incumbent auditor) won by less than 3,000 votes and 0.24%. The 2018 Iowa elections were held in the U.S. state of Iowa on November 6, 2018. A closed primary election was held on June 5, 2018. All of Iowa's executive officers were up for election, as well as all four of Iowa's seats in the United States House of Representatives, 25 (half) of the seats in the Iowa Senate, and all 100 seats in the Iowa House of Representatives. Roby Smith
Roby Smith (born 1977) is an American businessman and politician currently serving as Treasurer of Iowa since 2023. Early Life Roby Smith was born in Wyandotte, Michigan in 1977. He grew up in St. Louis, Missouri. His parents were both elementary teachers. Political Career In 2006, Smith ran for the Iowa House seat in District 85, losing to Jim Lykam. He was elected to the Iowa Senate in 2010, and represented District 47 and headed the State Government Committee. Clinton County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 46,460. Its county seat is Clinton. Its name is in honor of the seventh Governor of New York State, DeWitt Clinton. ''The Des Moines Register'' is the daily morning newspaper of Des Moines, Iowa, United States. History Early period The first newspaper in Des Moines was the ''Iowa Star''. In July 1849, Barlow Granger began the paper in an abandoned log cabin by the junction of the Des Moines and Raccoon River. In 1854, ''The Star'' became the ''Iowa Statesman'' which was also a Democratic paper. In 1857, ''The Statesman'' became the ''Iowa State Journal'', which published three times per week. Linn County is a county located in the U.S. state of Iowa. As of the 2020 census, the population was 230,299, making it the second-most populous county in Iowa. The county seat is Cedar Rapids. Brenna Bird (née Findley; born 1976) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as Iowa Attorney General since 2023. She is a member of the Republican Party. Early life and education Bird grew up on a farm near Dexter, Iowa. She earned her bachelor's degree from Drake University and her Juris Doctor degree from the University of Chicago Law School in 2001. The Attorney General of Iowa is the chief legal officer of the State of Iowa, United States. The office was created February 9, 1853.
