2022–23 Southern Lady Jaguars Basketball Team
The 2022–23 Southern Lady Jaguars basketball team represented Southern University during the 2022–23 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Lady Jaguars, led by fifth-year head coach Carlos Funchess, played their home games at the F. G. Clark Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana as members of the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The Lady Jaguars finished the season 18–15, 12–6 in SWAC play, to finish in a four-way tie for second place. They defeated Prairie View A&M, Jackson State and Arkansas–Pine Bluff to win the SWAC tournament championship and earned the conference's automatic bid into the NCAA tournament, and their first tournament appearance since 2019. They received the #16 seed in the Seattle Regional 4, where they lost to Sacred Heart in the First Four. Carlos Funchess
Carlos Funchess (born February 13, 1969) is an American college basketball coach for the Southern Lady Jaguars of the Southwestern Athletic Conference. He played college basketball for the Northeast Louisiana (now called Louisiana–Monroe) Warhawks and later professionally for several years. Funchess was born and raised in Magee, Mississippi. After his prep career he played two seasons at Copiah–Lincoln Community College before transferring to Northeast Louisiana prior to the 1989–90 season. He led the Warhawks to consecutive Southland Conference regular season and tournament championships. As a senior, Funchess averaged 19.4 points and 5.8 rebounds per game and was named Southland Conference co-Player of the Year with teammate Anthony Jones. 2022 SWAC Women's Basketball Tournament
The 2022 SWAC women's basketball tournament (officially known as the Cricket Wireless SWAC Basketball Tournament due to sponsorship reasons) was the postseason women's basketball tournament for the 2021–22 season in the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). The tournament was held from March 9 to 12, 2022. The tournament winner will receive an automatic invitation to the 2022 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament. Seeds Teams are seeded by record within the conference, with a tie–breaker system to seed teams with identical conference records. Only the top eight teams in the conference qualify for the tournament. South Terrebonne High School is a public secondary school in Bourg, Louisiana, United States. It is a part of the Terrebonne Parish School District. Liberty Magnet High School (also known as LMHS, Liberty High and formerly Lee High School) is a public magnet school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, United States, founded in the 1950s but was closed in 2009.
