2021–22 Western Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Season
The 2021–22 WAC men's basketball season began with practices in October 2021 followed by the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season in November 2021. The conference began play in December 2021. This is the WAC's 60th season of basketball. On July 1, 2021, The WAC officially welcomed four new members: Abilene Christian, Lamar, Sam Houston, and Stephen F. Austin to grow and revitalize the conference. All four were previously in the Southland Conference. The WAC now has 6 full members in Texas, making it the largest DI conference in the state. Each WAC member will play an 18-game conference schedule. The WAC tournament was held March 9–12, 2022 at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. NCAA Division I (D-I) is the highest division of intercollegiate athletics sanctioned by the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in the United States, which accepts players globally. D-I schools include the major collegiate athletic powers, with large budgets, more elaborate facilities and more athletic scholarships than Division II and Division III as well as many smaller schools committed to the highest level of intercollegiate competition. Jason Hooten
Jason Trey Hooten (born April 20, 1969) is the head coach of the New Mexico State University men's basketball program as of March 2025. Hooten was previously head coach at Sam Houston State University for 13 seasons. And was an assistant coach for there for the previous six years, before being named as the Bearkats' head men's basketball coach on April 2, 2010. In his time with the Bearkats, Hooten had a 261-169 record and six 20-plus victory seasons. Early life Hooten is a 1987 graduate of Killeen Ellison High School and lettered in basketball and baseball. He earned all-district, All-CenTex and All-Super CenTex while leading his team to the bi-district championship as a senior. He holds school career records for scoring and assists. DeSoto, Texas
DeSoto is a city in Dallas County, Texas, United States. DeSoto is a suburb of Dallas and is part of the Best Southwest area, which includes DeSoto, Cedar Hill, Duncanville, and Lancaster. History The area was first settled in 1847, making it one of the oldest communities in North Texas. A post office was established in 1881, and the settlement was named DeSoto in honor of Thomas Hernando DeSoto Stewart, a doctor dedicated to the community. By 1885, DeSoto was home to around 120 people, a cotton gin, and a general store. Soon after, the population declined to below 50. In 1930, 97 people were living in the community, with several businesses. After World War II, DeSoto and surrounding areas began to grow. Shadow Mountain High School is a public high school located in the north valley of Phoenix, Arizona. The school is part of the Paradise Valley Unified School District. The school's athletic teams are known as the Matadors. Shadow Mountain's school colors are navy blue and gold. It opened in 1974. History Shadow Mountain opened in the fall of 1974 with 4 buildings. Bryce Drew
Bryce Homer Drew (born September 21, 1974) is an American college basketball coach and former player who is the head coach at Grand Canyon University. Previously, he served as the head coach at Vanderbilt and in the same capacity at his alma mater, Valparaiso, having succeeded his father, Homer Drew. Rick Croy
Richard K. Croy (born July 19, 1977) is an American college basketball coach who is the current head coach of the California Baptist Lancers men's basketball team. Croy has been a basketball coach since 1999 and has held his current position at California Baptist since 2013. Croy grew up in Walnut Creek, California and played college basketball at San Francisco State. He began his basketball coaching career as an assistant at UC Riverside and Concordia University Irvine. His first head coaching position was at the junior college level at Citrus College from 2005 to 2010. Under Croy, Citrus won 130 games, three conference titles, and a California state championship. Fardaws Aimaq (born January 6, 1999) is a Canadian professional basketball player for Lietkabelis Panevėžys of the LKL and the EuroCup. He previously played for the Mercer Bears, Utah Valley Wolverines, Texas Tech Red Raiders, and California Golden Bears. Mark Ellsworth Madsen (born January 28, 1976) is an American basketball coach and former NBA player who is the head coach of the California Golden Bears of the ACC. Due to his hustle and physical style of play, he received the nickname "Mad Dog" while playing for the San Ramon Valley High School Wolves, and the moniker continued during his time with the Stanford Cardinal and beyond. Jon Judkins (born March 3, 1964) is an American basketball coach who is the current head coach of the Utah Tech Trailblazers men's basketball team. Playing career After a season at Dixie College (now Utah Tech University), Judkins transferred to Utah State where he was the first Aggie to post a triple-double, and was part of the team's 1988 NCAA tournament bid.
