2021–22 Wagner Seahawks Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Wagner Seahawks men's basketball team represented Wagner College during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Seahawks were led by 10th-year head coach Bashir Mason and they played their home games at Spiro Sports Center on the school's Staten Island campus as members of the Northeast Conference. Previous season In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Seahawks finished the season 13–7, 13–5 in NEC play to win the regular season championship. They lost in the semifinals of the NEC tournament to Mount St. Mary's. Due to the ongoing pandemic, the National Invitation Tournament was modified and, as a result, did not award bids to teams who had won their regular season championship, but failed to qualify for the NCAA tournament. Bashir Mason
Bashir Mason (born February 11, 1984) is an American college basketball coach and current head men's basketball coach at Saint Peter's University. He was previously an assistant coach at Marist College in 2008, and an assistant coach at Wagner College in 2010. Mason played high school basketball at St. Benedict's Preparatory School, then joined head coach Bruiser Flint to play college basketball at Drexel University. He was a four-year starter for the Dragons, scoring over 1,000 points and handing out 471 assists as a point guard. He was a Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) all-defensive player every season, as well as the CAA's defensive player of the year as a freshman. Mason was hired by Wagner in March 2012, as their 18th men's head basketball coach. At the time of his hiring, Mason was the youngest coach in NCAA Division I basketball at 28. The Dexter Southfield School is an independent co-educational day school located in Brookline, Massachusetts, educating students from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade.
