The 2021–22 Sydney FC (women) season is the club's 14th season in the A-League Women (formerly the W-League), the premier competition for women's football in Australia. Sydney Football Club is an Australian professional women's association football club based in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. They compete in the A-League Women, the top tier of women's soccer in Australia. History Establishment The formation of the W-League in October 2008 saw the league composed of eight teams. Seven of the eight clubs were directly affiliated with the A-League clubs, Sydney FC being one. The women's team shares the men's club name and colours. Inaugural season The inaugural W-League season was played over 10 rounds, followed by a finals series. During Sydney's season opener, the squad defeated Perth Glory 4–0 with a brace scored by Leena Khamis and two goals from Danielle Small and Heather Garriock. Captained by Australian international Heather Garriock Sydney's first season saw mixed results. Ally Cailin Green (born 17 August 1998) is a footballer who plays as a defender for Canadian Northern Super League club Calgary Wild FC. Born in Australia, she plays for the New Zealand national team. Club career Green signed for Sydney FC in Australia's top soccer league, W-League (Australia), W-League for the 2017-18 W-League, 2017–18 season but endured a severe ankle injury and did not play during the season. Taylor Ray (born 22 April 2001) is an Australian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for A-League Women club Central Coast Mariners. Club career Ray made her senior debut for Sydney FC on the 9th of December 2017 in a 3–1 win against Western Sydney Wanderers. In May 2024, Ray departed Sydney FC, after seven seasons at the club.
