2021–22 Sutton United F.C. Season
The 2021–22 Sutton United F.C. season was the 95th edition of competitive association football and first season in the English Football League played by Sutton United Football Club, a professional football club based in Sutton in the London Borough of Sutton, England. They won, and were therefore promoted from, the National League in 2020–21 to earn entry into the EFL League Two. The club contested in this season's edition of the FA Cup; and for the first time, in the EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. The season ran from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022. Matt Gray (footballer, Born 1981)
Matthew Gray (born 16 September 1981) is an English professional football manager and former player who is the current head coach of the EFL League Two club Sutton United. Playing career A youth product of Tottenham Hotspur and Cardiff City, Gray had an unassuming senior career in the National League. He began his senior career at Barnet, with stints at Hayes, and Havant & Waterlooville where he was appointed the captain. He ended his playing career at 25, due to various injuries. Coaching career After retiring as a footballer, Gray began coaching. His first stints were as the assistant manager at Eastleigh. He was also the assistant with EFL League Two clubs Aldershot Town and Crawley Town. In December 2018, he was appointed as one of the coaches at Sutton United. On 22 April 2019, the long-term Sutton United manager Paul Doswell stepped down. In sports leagues, promotion and relegation is a process where teams are transferred between multiple divisions based on their performance for the completed season. 2020–21 National League
The 2020–21 National League season, known as the Vanarama National League for sponsorship reasons, is the sixth season under English football's new title of the National League, the eighteenth season consisting of three divisions, and the forty-second season overall. The season follows the curtailed 2019–20 season, in which the league phase was uncompleted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the play-offs only completed by 2 August 2020.
