2021–22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish Women's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball team represented the University of Notre Dame during the 2021–22 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Fighting Irish were led by second year head coach Niele Ivey and played their home games at Purcell Pavilion as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Fighting Irish finished the season 24–10 overall and 13–5 in ACC play, to finish in a three way tie for third place. As the third seed in the ACC tournament, they defeated sixth seed Georgia Tech in the Quarterfinals before losing to seventh seed Miami in the Semifinals. They received and at-large bid to the NCAA tournament and were the fifth seed in the Bridgeport Region. They defeated twelfth seed in the First Round and fourth seed Oklahoma in the Second Round before losing to NC State in the Sweet Sixteen to end their season. Niele Ivey
Niele Deirdre Jamillah Viveca Ivey (born September 24, 1977) is an American college basketball coach who is the current head coach for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish women's basketball team. She is a former Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA) player for the Indiana Fever, Detroit Shock, and Phoenix Mercury. Prior to her move to the NBA in August 2019, she was an assistant coach for the University of Notre Dame women's basketball team, where she played in college. She was an All-American point guard and became the 17th player in school history to record over 1,000 career points. She received the Frances Pomeroy Naismith Award presented for the nation's top player under 5'8" in 2001. She would go on to lead the Irish women to their first NCAA Championship in 2001, in her hometown of St. Louis as a fifth-year senior. 2021 Women's National Invitation Tournament
The 2021 Women's National Invitation Tournament was a tournament of 32 NCAA Division I teams that were not selected to participate in the 2021 NCAA Division I women's basketball tournament. The tournament committee announced the 32-team field on March 15, 2021, following the selection of the NCAA Tournament field. The tournament began on March 19, 2021, with the championship game on March 28, 2021. Rice won its first WNIT championship. All games were streamed on FloSports. Format changes Changes were made in order to ensure continued viability for the tournament during the COVID-19 pandemic. The field of teams was halved from 64 to 32. Games were not held on-campus; instead there were regional sites. Each conference was not guaranteed an automatic bid as they have been in the past. Olivia Miles
Olivia Rose Miles (born January 29, 2003) is an American college basketball player for the TCU Horned Frogs of the Big 12 Conference. She previously played for the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. High school career Born in Summit, New Jersey and later a resident of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, Miles played basketball for Blair Academy in Blairstown, New Jersey. In her junior season, she averaged 13.6 points, 8.1 rebounds and 7.6 assists per game, leading her team to the Prep A state title.
