2021–22 Buffalo Bulls Men's Basketball Team
The 2021–22 Buffalo Bulls men's basketball team represented the University at Buffalo in the 2021–22 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bulls, led by third-year head coach Jim Whitesell, played their home games at Alumni Arena (University at Buffalo), Alumni Arena in Amherst, New York as members of the Mid-American Conference. Previous season The 2020–21 Buffalo Bulls men's basketball team, Bulls finished the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season, 2020–21 season 16–9, 12–5 in MAC play to finish in second place. In the 2021 MAC men's basketball tournament, MAC tournament, they defeated 2020–21 Miami RedHawks men's basketball team, Miami (OH) in the first round, 2020–21 Akron Zips men's basketball team, Akron in the quarterfinals, advancing to the championship game. Jim Whitesell
Jim Whitesell (born December 27, 1959) is an American college basketball coach who is an assistant coach for the Albany Great Danes men's basketball team. Prior to Albany, he was the head men's coach for the Buffalo Bulls. Previously he coached at the Division I level as a head coach at Loyola University Chicago and an assistant at St. John's and Saint Louis. Whitesell replaced Larry Farmer as head coach of the Ramblers on April 14, 2004. Whitesell was fired as head coach of the Ramblers on March 14, 2011, after seven seasons, posting a 109–106 record in that time. Whitesell was hired in August 2013 as an assistant coach at St. John's to fill the void left by former director of basketball operations Moe Hicks. On April 16, 2015, he was named associate head coach of men's basketball at the University at Buffalo.
