2021–22 Blackburn Rovers F.C. Season
The 2021–22 season was Blackburn Rovers' 134th season as a professional football club. The club participated in the Championship for a fourth consecutive season. Along with competing in the Championship, the club also participated in the FA Cup and EFL Cup. The season covered the period from 1 July 2021 to 30 June 2022. Activity Summer activity May On 14 May 2021, Rovers announced their retained list, Ryan Nyambe, Joe Rothwell and Joe Rankin-Costello have had the one-year options in their contracts activated. Bradley Johnson has extended his stay by a further 12 months. Discussions are ongoing with club captain Elliott Bennett regarding the possibility of extending his stay, however he is free to consider other options. Harry Chapman has been offered a new contract. Elliott Bennett
Elliott Bennett (born 18 December 1988) is an English professional footballer who plays for club Shrewsbury Town. He is the elder brother of footballer Kyle Bennett. Club career Wolverhampton Wanderers Bennett grew up in Telford, Shropshire, and joined Wolverhampton Wanderers at age nine having been spotted playing in a local five-a-side tournament. He captained the club's under-12 team that travelled to Japan in 2001 and won the U12 World Cup, where he also picked up the Player of the Tournament award. He attended Thomas Telford School, where he captained the football team to win the County Cup five years in a row. Bennett was also a talented 200m sprinter and represented Shropshire at the English School Athletics Championships. James Connolly (footballer)
James Alfred Connolly (born 2 November 2001) is a Welsh professional footballer who plays as a central defender for club Bristol Rovers. He is a former Wales under-21 international. Club career Early career Connolly began his career with Blackburn Rovers, signing a two-year scholarship contract with the club in June 2018. Despite missing the majority of the 2019–20 season through an injury sustained in October 2019, Connolly had his scholarship extended by a further year being released by the club at the end of the following season. Tom White (footballer, Born 1997)
Thomas Alan White (born 9 May 1997) is an English professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Barrow. Club career Gateshead After playing for a boys clubs with future Blackburn teammate Adam Armstrong and youth football for Carlisle United, he signed for Gateshead at the age of 18. His time with Gateshead was hindered by injury, and in 2016 the club initially withdrew their offer of a professional contract due to his injuries. He remained with the club to use their training facilities as he recovered, and he also spent loan spells at Spennymoor Town (signing for them in January 2017), West Auckland Town (signing for them in September 2017), Ashington (signing for them in November 2017) and Scarborough Athletic (signing for them in January 2018). Brad Lyons
Brad Joseph Lyons (born 26 May 1997) is a Northern Irish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Kilmarnock and the Northern Ireland national team. Club career Lyons began his career in the Irish Premiership with Coleraine. After helping Coleraine win the Irish Cup, in September 2018 he moved on loan to English club Blackburn Rovers, with the deal to become permanent in January 2019. Benjamin Alan "Ben" Paton (born May 5, 2000) is a Canadian professional soccer player. Club career Early career In 2016, Paton joined the youth academy of Blackburn Rovers, after trialing the year previous. In March 2018 Blackburn signed Paton to a professional contract. Lewis Thompson
Lewis Thompson (born 10 October 1999) is a Northern Irish professional footballer who plays as a defender for Hyde United. Club career Thompson began his career with Manchester United, moving to Blackburn Rovers in 2016. Whilst with Blackburn he spent loan spells at F.C. Stefan Edouard Mols (born 31 January 1999) is a Spanish professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Warrington Town. Club career In January 2017, the 18 year old signed a professional contract with the first team, penning a deal which would keep him in the club till the summer of 2019. Joe Grayson
Joseph Nicholas Grayson (born 26 March 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a defender and midfielder who plays for Gateshead. Having come through the youth academy at Blackburn Rovers, he spent time on loan with Grimsby Town and Oxford United before signing a permanent contract with Barrow in 2021. Lewis Harry Holtby (born 18 September 1990) is a German professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Holstein Kiel. Holtby began his professional career with Alemannia Aachen before signing for Schalke 04 two years later. He was subsequently loaned to VfL Bochum and Mainz 05 before returning to Gelsenkirchen where he lifted the DFL-Supercup in 2011. Stewart Downing
Stewart Downing (born 22 July 1984) is an English former professional footballer. He played most of his career as a winger, where he operated predominantly on the left-hand side, though he could play on the right and go inside on to his stronger left foot. Downing had played more recently as an attacking midfielder. Downing started his career at Middlesbrough, where after a loan at Sunderland, he became a key part of the team, winning the League Cup in 2004 and helping them to the UEFA Cup final two years later. Amari'i Kyren Bell (born 5 May 1994) is a professional footballer who plays as a left back for club Luton Town and the Jamaica national team. Bell joined Birmingham City's Academy in 2011 and turned professional the following year. He spent time on loan at Conference Premier club Nuneaton Town in the first half of the 2013–14 season before making his Football League debut for Birmingham in January 2014.
