2021 World Para Athletics European Championships
The 2021 World Para Athletics European Championships was a track and field competition for athletes with a disability open to International Paralympic Committee (IPC) affiliated countries within Europe and a refugee team with one athlete. This was the 7th edition of the event. This was also the first time that the event was held in Poland. Around 670 athletes competed at the event. History The event was originally scheduled to be held between 3 and 7 June 2020. On 26 March 2020, it was announced that the event would be postponed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in June it was confirmed that the postponement would be until 2021. Kimberly Alkemade (born 29 March 1990) is a Dutch Paralympic athlete. Career Alkemade lost her left lower leg in a bus accident in 1998 near Montelimar, France, and started in Para athletics. The 2019 World Para Athletics Championships was her first big tournament. Marlene van Gansewinkel (born 11 March 1995) is a Dutch Paralympic athlete. In 2021, she won the gold medal in both the women's 100 metres T64 and 200 metres T64 events at the 2020 Summer Paralympics in Tokyo, Japan. Saška Sokolov (born 15 May 1995) is a Serbian athlete who competed for her nation in the javelin throw at the 2016 Summer Paralympics, and 2020 Summer Paralympics. Career Saška Sokolov was born in Pirot, Serbia, the daughter of football coach Sasha Sokolov. T47 (classification)
T47 is a disability sport classification for disability athletics primarily for competitors with a below elbow or wrist amputation or impairment. T47 is a classification for track events, but unlike the other T40 to T46 classifications, it has no equivalent F47 classification for field events. The amputee sports equivalent class is ISOD the A8 class. People in this class can have injuries due to overuse of their remaining upper limb.
