2021 Wimbledon Championships – Women's Doubles
Defending champion Hsieh Su-wei and her partner, Elise Mertens, defeated Veronika Kudermetova and Elena Vesnina in the final, 3–6, 7–5, 9–7, to win the ladies' doubles tennis title at the 2021 Wimbledon Championships. The pair saved two championship points en route to their first major title together. Hsieh won the title with Barbora Strýcová when the tournament was last held in 2019, but Strýcová retired from professional tennis in May 2021. By reaching the final, Mertens reclaimed the world No. 1 doubles ranking. Kristina Mladenovic was also in contention for the ranking, but lost in the first round. Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Samantha Stosur were each bidding to complete the career Grand Slam in doubles, but they lost in the second round and first round, respectively. A former List of WTA number 1 ranked doubles tennis players, world No. 1 in Doubles tennis, doubles with nine Grand Slam (tennis), Grand Slam titles, she is regarded as one of the most successful and versatile doubles players in history. She also reached world No. 23 in singles, and is the highest-ranked Taiwanese player in history in both singles and doubles. Sharon Fichman ( ; born December 3, 1990) is a Canadian former tennis player. She achieved career-high WTA rankings of 77 in singles (May 2014) and 21 in doubles (January 2022). In 2005, Fichman won the gold medal in women's singles at the 2005 Maccabiah Games in Israel, at the age of 14. She was ranked No. 5 on the ITF Junior Circuit in December 2006.
