2021 United States Women's Curling Championship
The 2021 United States Women's Curling Championship was held from May 26 to 30, 2021 at the Wausau Curling Club in Wausau, Wisconsin. The event was held in conjunction with the 2021 United States Men's Curling Championship. Impact of the COVID-19 pandemic The event was originally scheduled to be held February 6 to 13 at the ImOn Ice Arena in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In August 2020, a derecho damaged the arena and the COVID-19 pandemic caused the repairs to be delayed significantly enough to necessitate moving the championships to a different venue. In December 2020 the United States Curling Association (USCA) announced that, due to the continuing pandemic, the Men's, Women's, and Mixed Doubles National Championships would be postponed until May 2021 and would be conducted in a bio-secure bubble. 2021 World Women's Curling Championship
The 2021 World Women's Curling Championship (branded as 2021 LGT World Women's Curling Championship for sponsorship reasons) was held 30 April to 9 May at the Markin MacPhail Centre at Canada Olympic Park in Calgary, Alberta. The event was originally awarded to Schaffhausen, Switzerland. In February 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, local authorities withdrew permission to host the event. On 5 March 2021, the championship was moved to Calgary. The event was held in a centralized "bubble" at Canada Olympic Park, which also hosted the men's world championship, as well as all major Curling Canada championships leading up to the Worlds. All events were held behind closed doors with no spectators. Courtney George
Courtney George (born June 24, 1986) is an American curler from Duluth, Minnesota. Career George began curling in 1998. She won two medals at the World Junior Curling Championships as alternate for Cassandra Johnson, gold in 2002 and silver in 2003. She was also a national junior champion in 2004 and 2007. George participated in the 2005 United States Olympic Curling Trials, playing as third for skip Aileen Sormunen, and qualified for the playoffs in fourth place, but lost their page playoffs game against Patti Lank. Mark Lazar
Mark Lazar (born July 19, 1977) is an American curler and curling coach. He competed in the 2005 United States Olympic Curling Trials. He curls out of the Detroit Curling Club. He coached Team Stopera to three United States Junior Championships and a silver medal at the 2017 World Junior Championships. Playing career While attending Bowling Green University in his freshman year, Lazar took a 1 credit gym class in curling. He joined the Bowling Green Curling Club a year after and joined a club league and the university curling league. Lazar participated in the 2001, 2002, and 2003 United States Men's Curling Championships. Cora Farrell
Cora Farrell (born May 23, 1999) is an American curler from Fairbanks, Alaska. She was a silver medalist at the 2016 Winter Youth Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. Career Farrell has competed in eight consecutive Junior National Championships. Her first was in 2013 at only 13 years old, playing third for Kaitlin Fowler. They finished the tournament with a 3–6 win–loss record, in a four-way tie for sixth place. Farrell's best results at Junior Nationals have been in 2017, 2019, and 2020, each time earning the silver medal. Monica Walker (born February 20, 1987) is an American curler originally from Brighton, Massachusetts. She is a three-time national champion. Curling career Walker began curling in 1997. In adult competitions, she placed 4th at the U.S. National Championships in 2012 and again in 2013. In 2016 Walker and Persinger left Roth's team to join Jamie Sinclair as the front end of a new team, with Alex Carlson as third. This new team found success, winning the 2017 U.S. Championships, but missed out on going to the World Championship due to not having enough points on the World Curling Tour. Madison Bear (born April 26, 1997) is an American curler from Portage, Wisconsin. As a junior curler, Bear was a two-time United States champion and a World runner-up. Career Bear first competed at the United States Junior Curling Championship in 2015, as skip of a team consisting of Jenna Burchesky at third, Allison Howell at second and Annmarie Dubberstein at lead. Despite being newcomers on the national stage, Team Bear made it to the finals where they lost to defending champion Cory Christensen. The following season, Bear joined Christensen's team as lead.
