2021 Alpine Skiing World Cup – Women's Downhill
The women's downhill in the 2021 FIS Alpine Skiing World Cup consisted of seven events. The original schedule had called for eight downhills, but (as discussed below) the World Cup finals race was canceled. 2018 discipline champion Sofia Goggia of Italy, who had struggled with injuries since then, held the lead through midseason, and after the second downhill at Crans Montana, she had opened up a 195-point lead over Breezy Johnson of the United States, with everyone else over 200 points behind. Downhill is a form of alpine skiing competition. Whereas the other alpine skiing events ( slalom, giant slalom, super giant slalom, and combined) emphasize turning and technique, downhill emphasizes "the six components of technique, courage, speed, risk, physical condition and judgement", according to the FIS "International Ski Competition Rules (ICR)".. FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021
The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships 2021 were held from 8–21 February in Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy. In May 2020, the Italian Winter Sports Federation (FISI) and the event organizing committee asked the International Ski Federation (FIS) to postpone the event until 2022 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, however, the request was rejected by FIS, and the organizers then moved forward with plans for 2021. The host city was selected at the FIS Congress in Cancún, Mexico, on 10 June 2016. Cortina d'Ampezzo was the only applicant, and had been a finalist for the previous two championships. Cortina previously hosted the world championships in 1932 and 1956 ( Winter Olympics) and has held numerous World Cup events; the Tofane is a regular stop for women's speed events in January. Elena Curtoni
Elena Curtoni (born 3 February 1991) is an Italian World Cup alpine ski racer. Her sister Irene Curtoni is also a former World Cup racer. Biography Born in Morbegno, Sondrio, Lombardy, she has competed for Italy in five World Championships. Curtoni made her World Cup debut in November 2009 at age 18 and gained her first podium in March 2016; her first win was in a downhill at Bansko in January 2020, leading an Italian podium sweep with teammates Marta Bassino and Federica Brignone.
