2020–21 Washington State Cougars Men's Basketball Team
The 2020–21 Washington State Cougars men's basketball team represented Washington State University during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team is led by second-year head coach Kyle Smith. The Cougars played their home games at the Beasley Coliseum in Pullman, Washington as members in the Pac-12 Conference. Previous season The Cougars finished the 2019–20 season 16–16, 6–12 in Pa-12 play to finish in 11th place. They defeated Colorado in the first round of the Pac-12 tournament and were set to face Arizona State in the quarterfinals before the remainder of the Pac-12 Tournament was cancelled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. On March 12, all other conference tournaments and postseason tournaments were cancelled, making the Cougars win over Colorado on March 11 the final game to be completed in the 2019–20 basketball season. Kyle Smith (basketball)
Kyle Andrew Smith (born June 26, 1969) is an American college basketball coach who is the men's head coach for the Stanford Cardinal of the ACC. Prior to joining the Cardinal, Smith was the head coach at Columbia University, the University of San Francisco, and Washington State University. In his final season at Columbia, he led the team to a CIT Championship over UC Irvine. His coaching style has been dubbed “Nerdball”, which is a system that utilizes analytics to track and make decisions on many aspects about the team. Early life Smith was born in El Paso, Texas, and raised on the Fort Bliss Army base. He played basketball at Alief Hastings High School in Houston, and graduated in 1988. 2020 NBA Draft
The 2020 NBA draft was held on November 18, 2020. The draft was originally scheduled to be held at Barclays Center in Brooklyn on June 25, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was instead conducted at ESPN's facilities in Bristol, Connecticut, with the event held via videoconferencing. National Basketball Association (NBA) teams took turns selecting amateur United States college basketball players and other eligible players, including international players. It was televised nationally on ESPN. The draft lottery was originally scheduled to take place on May 19, 2020, but due in part to the 2020 NBA Bubble, it was rescheduled to take place on August 20, 2020, instead. Efe Abogidi
Efemena Tennyson Abogidi (born 11 October 2001) is a Nigerian professional basketball player for the Central Districts Lions of the NBL1 Central. He played college basketball for the Washington State Cougars of the Pac-12 Conference. Early life and career Abogidi grew up in Ughelli, a town in Delta State, Nigeria. He competed in track and field, including sprinting, long jump and high jump. Abogidi watched highlight videos of Tim Duncan, who he tried to emulate in local pick-up basketball games. In 2015 and 2016, he was named most valuable player of a camp run by Olumide Oyedeji in Lagos. Andrej Jakimovski
Andrej Jakimovski (born 18 March 2001) is a Macedonian professional basketball player for Dolomiti Energia Trento of the Italian Lega Basket Serie A (LBA). He previously played for the Washington State Cougars and the Colorado Buffaloes. Listed at and , he plays the small forward position. Early career Jakimovski played for Basket Torino of the Italian Serie A2 Basket during the 2019–20 season. He saw little playing time for Torino. The Charlotte 49ers men's basketball team represents the University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNC Charlotte) in NCAA Division I basketball. Charlotte is a member of the American Athletic Conference (The American), which they joined in 2023 after 10 seasons in Conference USA.
