2020–21 UMBC Retrievers Men's Basketball Team
The 2020–21 UMBC Retrievers men's basketball team represented the University of Maryland, Baltimore County in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Retrievers, led by fifth-year head coach Ryan Odom, played their home games at the UMBC Event Center in Catonsville, Maryland as members of the America East Conference. In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Retrievers finished the season 14–6, 10–4 in America East play, to finish in a tie for first place. They lost to UMass Lowell in the semifinals of the America East tournament. Following the season, Odom left the school to accept the head coaching position at Utah State. On April 12, 2021, the school named former Duquesne and Penn State head coach Jim Ferry as the team's new head coach. Ryan Odom
Ryan Odom (born July 11, 1974) is an American men's college basketball coach who is the head coach of the Virginia Cavaliers, Virginia Virginia Cavaliers men's basketball, Cavaliers men's basketball team since March 21, 2025. He has previously coached the UMBC Retrievers, Utah State Aggies, and VCU Rams, taking each program to the NCAA Tournament by his second year. 2020 America East Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2020 America East men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the America East Conference, which was held on March 7, 10, and canceled before its scheduled conclusion on March 14, 2020. All tournament games were played on home arenas of the higher-seeded school. The winner would have received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament, which itself was also cancelled to help curtail the spread of COVID-19. Seeds The top eight teams in the conference standings qualify for the tournament. The teams are seeded by record in conference, with a tiebreaker system to seed teams with identical conference records.
