2020–21 Sunderland A.F.C. Season
The 2020–21 season was Sunderland A.F.C., Sunderland's 142nd season in their history and the third consecutive season in EFL League One. Along with League One, the club also participated in the FA Cup, EFL Cup and EFL Trophy. The season covered the period from 1 July 2020 to 30 June 2021. The club finished fourth in the league and would miss out on promotion after losing 3–2 on aggregate to Lincoln City F.C., Lincoln City in the play-off semi final. They were winners of the EFL Trophy, beating Tranmere Rovers 1–0 in the final, in the club's first win at Wembley since 1973. Phil Parkinson
Philip John Parkinson (born 1 December 1967) is an English professional football manager and former player who played as a midfielder. He is the manager of club Wrexham. Parkinson acquired a Social Science degree early into his career as a manager and is the only manager to take an English fourth-tier league club to the final of a major cup competition at Wembley Stadium, leading Bradford City of League Two to the 2013 League Cup final. During his career, he has achieved promotion six times: with Colchester to the Championship in 2006, with Bradford to League One in 2013, with Bolton Wanderers to the Championship in 2017, and with Wrexham to League Two in 2023, League One in 2024 and the Championship in 2025. Tom Flanagan (footballer)
Thomas Michael Flanagan (born 21 October 1991) is a professional footballer who plays as a defender for club Colchester United. Born in England, he plays for the Northern Ireland national team. Club career Milton Keynes Dons Flanagan captained the Milton Keynes Dons (MK Dons) under-18 team in January 2010 while a second-year scholar. Conor Gerard McLaughlin (born 26 July 1991) is a Northern Irish former footballer who played as a right back. Club career Preston North End Born in Belfast, McLaughlin turned professional with Preston North End in January 2010. Adam Lee Richardson (born 7 September 2003) is an English footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Blyth Spartans on loan from club Sunderland.
