2020–21 Sporting CP Season
The 2020–21 season was the 115th season in existence of Sporting Clube de Portugal and the club's 87th consecutive season in the top flight of Portuguese football. In addition to the domestic league, Sporting CP participated in this season's editions of the Taça de Portugal and the UEFA Europa League. The club also qualified for the Taça da Liga, winning the competition and achieving an unofficial double. The season covered the period from 26 July 2020 to 30 June 2021. Sporting won the 2020–21 Primeira Liga with two matches remaining, following a 1–0 home win against Boavista, and thus became Portuguese champions for the 19th time in their history, and for the first time since the 2001–02 season. In this season, Sporting set a league record for the longest unbeaten run in a single season with 32 matches in a row (25 wins and seven draws) out of 34 matches. 2001–02 Primeira Liga
The 2001–02 Primeira Liga was the 68th edition of top flight of Portuguese football. It started on 11 August 2001 with a match between Varzim and Benfica, and ended on 6 May 2002. The league was contested by 18 clubs with Boavista as the defending champions. Sporting CP won the league and qualified for the 2002–03 UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, along with Boavista, who qualified for the second round. Porto and Leixões from the third division qualified for the 2002–03 UEFA Cup; in opposite, Salgueiros, Farense and Alverca were relegated to the Segunda Liga. Mário Jardel was the top scorer with 42 goals. Until 2021, this remained the last season where Sporting CP won the title and where neither Porto nor Benfica won before Sporting CP won the 2020–21 season ending their 19-year drought and 19-year reign of Porto and Benfica. João Mário (footballer, Born January 1993)
João Mário Naval da Costa Eduardo (born 19 January 1993), known as João Mário (), is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Primeira Liga club Benfica. He started out at Sporting CP in whose youth system he developed, being loaned to Vitória de Setúbal in 2014 and subsequently returning to be an important part of the squads that won major trophies, including the 2015 Taça de Portugal. Luís Neto
Luís Carlos Novo Neto (; born 26 May 1988) is a Portuguese former professional footballer who played as a centre-back. Club career Born in Póvoa de Varzim, Porto District, Neto joined his hometown club Varzim SC's youth ranks at the age of 10. He appeared for them in the second division, being a backup or third choice in four of his five seasons. His competitive debut came on 10 February 2007 in a 2–1 home win against S.L. João Maria Lobo Alves Palhares Costa Palhinha Gonçalves (; born 9 July 1995) is a Portuguese professional footballer who plays as a defensive midfielder for Bundesliga club Bayern Munich and the Portugal national team. Sebastián Coates Nion (; born 7 October 1990) is a Uruguayan professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Uruguayan club Nacional.
