2020–21 Slovak Women's First League
The 2020–21 Slovak Women's First League was the 27th season of the Slovak's top-tier football league for women also known as 1. liga, ženy and I Liga Women. Slovan Bratislava was the defending champions. The season was abandoned due COVID-19 pandemic in Slovakia. Controversy The Executive Committee of the Slovak Football Association has decided to cancel the 2020/2021 season in all youth and women's competitions conducted by the Slovak Football Association. At the time of approval this decision, Partizán Bardejov were in second place, three points behind Slovan who however played two more matches. Partizán even defeated Slovan in an away match and remained the only undefeated team in the league. The I. liga žien (Slovak for "First Women's League") is the top level women's football league of Slovakia. The winner of the league qualifies for the UEFA Women's Champions League. There are currently ten teams in the league. History The Czechoslovak women's football championships were divided between the country's two "federal republics", but the Czech and Slovak champions did meet in an annual final match from the season 1988–89 until 1992–93. The Slovak Women's First League was founded in 1994. Format In 2011/12 the format of the league was changed. The ten teams first play a double round-robin for 18 matches per team. After that a championship group was introduced. The top four teams will play each other twice again. The winner of the group then is the champion. 2021–22 UEFA Women's Champions League
The 2021–22 UEFA Women's Champions League was the 21st edition of the European women's club football championship organised by UEFA, and the 13th edition since being rebranded as the UEFA Women's Champions League. It was the first edition to feature a double-round-robin group stage, in the same manner as the men's UEFA Champions League. The final was held at the Juventus Stadium in Turin, Italy. COVID-19 Pandemic In Slovakia
The COVID-19 pandemic in Slovakia has resulted in confirmed cases of COVID-19 and deaths. The virus was confirmed to have spread to Slovakia on 6 March 2020 when Prime Minister of Slovakia, Prime Minister Peter Pellegrini announced that a 52-year-old man was infected. He had not travelled anywhere but his son had travelled to Venice in Italy, and was later confirmed as the first Slovak to be infected. Three cases were then confirmed, including the man's son and wife. During the next few days, COVID-19 cases went up to 21 out of 832 tested. As of 4 February 2023, 7,219,030 COVID-19 vaccine doses have been administered in Slovakia. Marek Hamšík
Marek Hamšík (; born 27 July 1987) is a Slovak football coach and former player who played as a midfielder. He is currently the team manager and assistant coach for the Slovakia national team. After beginning his club career with Slovan Bratislava in 2004, Hamšík moved to Italian club Brescia later that year. In 2007, he was purchased by newly promoted Serie A club Napoli, where he became a mainstay in the squad's starting line-up.
