2020–21 Saint Mary's Gaels Men's Basketball Team
The 2020–21 Saint Mary's Gaels men's basketball team represented Saint Mary's College of California during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team were led by head coach Randy Bennett in his 20th season at Saint Mary's. The Gaels played their home games at the University Credit Union Pavilion in Moraga, California as members of the West Coast Conference. They finished the season 14-10, 4-6 to finish in 7th place. They defeated Pepperdine in the quarterfinals in the WCC Tournament before losing in the semifinals to Gonzaga. They received an invitation to the NIT where they lost in the first round to Western Kentucky. Previous season The Gaels finished the 2019–20 season 26–8, 11–5 in WCC play to finish in a tie for third place. Randy Bennett
Randall William Bennett (born June 9, 1962) is an American college basketball coach and the current head men's basketball coach at Saint Mary's College of California. He has led the team nine NCAA tournament appearances, regular season conference championships in 2011, 2012, 2016, 2023, 2024, and 2025 as well as WCC tournament championships in 2010, 2012, 2019, and 2024. Early life and college playing career Born in Mesa, Arizona, Bennett graduated from Westwood High School in Mesa and began his collegiate career at Mesa Community College, playing under his father Tom from 1980 to 1982. Bennett then transferred to the University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego). As a senior in the 1984–85 season, Bennett averaged 7.0 points and 1.5 rebounds. 2020 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2020 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was a planned single-elimination tournament of 68 teams to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's college basketball national champion for the 2019–20 season. The 82nd edition of the tournament would have begun on March 17, 2020, and concluded with the championship game on April 6 at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. On March 12, the tournament, as well as all other NCAA championships for the remainder of the academic year, were canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, just five days before it was set to begin. It was the first time the tournament had been canceled since its creation in 1939. California Baptist Lancers Men's Basketball
The California Baptist Lancers men's basketball team represents California Baptist University in the Western Athletic Conference. The team made the jump into Division I basketball on July 1, 2018. They are currently led by head coach Rick Croy and play at the Fowler Events Center, which opened in 2017 and replaced the Van Dyne Gym. The men's basketball program was ineligible to play in the NCAA Division I Tournament during their transition period, although they were eligible for other tournaments such as the College Basketball Invitational. UC Riverside Highlanders Men's Basketball
The UC Riverside Highlanders men's basketball team represents the University of California, Riverside in Riverside, California, United States. The school's team currently competes in the Big West Conference and their head coach is Gus Argenal, who is in his first year with the program. The Highlanders play their home games at the Student Recreation Center Arena. The program had its greatest success as a Division II program, making it to three Final Fours and the national title game in 1995. Jock Perry
Jock Henry Perry (born 20 May 1997) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Diamond Valley Eagles of the NBL1 South. He played college basketball for the Saint Mary's Gaels and the UC Riverside Highlanders. Early life and career Perry grew up in Seddon, Victoria and came from a tall family, although his height resulted in breaking 13 different bones. His level of insulin growth hormone was found to be twice that of a normal person's, and a brain scan revealed a tumour on his pituitary gland. A month later, the tumour was removed and found to be benign. Perry was a relative latecomer to basketball, though his height provided an advantage. He arrived at the Australian Institute of Sport Centre of Excellence in 2013, and sustained knee and hand injuries. Jordan Matthew Ford (born May 26, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for Trapani Shark of the Lega Basket Serie A (LBA). He played college basketball for the Saint Mary's Gaels. The Brisbane Bullets are an Australian professional men's basketball team in the National Basketball League (NBL) based in Brisbane, Queensland. They competed from 1979 to 2008, and returned to the league in 2016.
