2020–21 Portland Pilots Men's Basketball Team
The 2020–21 Portland Pilots men's basketball team represented the University of Portland during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Pilots were led by fifth-year head coach Terry Porter until he was fired February 5, 2021 after 17 games. He was replaced by interim head coach Ben Johnson for the rest of the season. They played their home games at the Chiles Center as members of the West Coast Conference. In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, they finished the season 6–15, 0–11 in WCC play to finish in last place. They lost to Santa Clara in the first round of the WCC tournament. On March 22, the school named Eastern Washington head coach Shantay Legans the team's new head coach. Terry Porter
Terry Porter (born April 8, 1963) is an American former college basketball coach and former player in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He was most recently the head men's basketball coach at the Portland Pilots, University of Portland. A native of Wisconsin, he played college basketball at the University of Wisconsin–Stevens Point before being drafted 24th by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1985 NBA draft. In Portland, he played ten seasons with two NBA All-Star Game, All-Star Game appearances. Porter spent 17 years in the NBA as a player. Following his retirement as a player in 2002, he began coaching in the league. Porter has twice been a head coach, first with his hometown Milwaukee Bucks and then with the Phoenix Suns. UC Davis Aggies Men's Basketball
The UC Davis Aggies men's basketball team represents University of California, Davis in Davis, California, United States. The team currently competes in the Big West Conference. The team is led by head coach Jim Les, who is in his 14th season at the helm during the 2024-25 season. Hugh Watanabe
, also known as Hugh Hogland, is a Japanese-American professional basketball player for Ryukyu Golden Kings of the B.League. He played college basketball for the Portland Pilots and the UC Davis Aggies. Watanabe has been a member of the Japan national basketball team. Early life Watanabe was born in Waimānalo, Hawaiʻi to a Japanese mother, Sanae Watanabe, and an American father, Matthew Hogland. He played volleyball and baseball as a child but after sustaining an injury, Watanabe gave up baseball and started playing basketball and soccer for fun.
