2020–21 Northern Iowa Panthers Men's Basketball Team
The 2020–21 Northern Iowa Panthers men's basketball team represented the University of Northern Iowa during the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Panthers, led by 15th-year head coach Ben Jacobson, played their home games at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls, Iowa as members of the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). In a season limited due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, COVID-19 pandemic, the Panthers finished the season 10–15, 7–11 in 2020–21 Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball season, MVC play, to finish in a three-way tie for fifth place. As the No. 7 seed in the 2021 missouri valle, MVC tournament, they defeated 2020–21 Illinois State Redbirds men's basketball team, Illinois State in the first round before being forced to forfeit their quarterfinal game against 2020–21 Drake Bulldogs men's basketball team, Drake due to positive COVID-19 tests. Ben Jacobson
Ben Scott Jacobson (born December 16, 1970) is an American basketball coach. He is the head men's basketball coach at the University of Northern Iowa, a position he has held since 2006. He served as an assistant at North Dakota Fighting Hawks men's basketball, North Dakota, North Dakota State Bison men's basketball, North Dakota State, and Northern Iowa Panthers men's basketball, Northern Iowa before taking over as head coach at Northern Iowa in 2006. Playing career Jacobson attended Mayville-Portland High School. After his senior year he was named 1989's North Dakota Mr. Basketball. Jacobson went on to play collegiately at the University of North Dakota from 1989 to 1993. He was a four-year letterman for the Sioux, a two-year starter, and he ended his career as the school's all-time assist leader.
