Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB; English: New Basketball Brazil) is the Brazilian premier professional men's basketball league. It is organized by the Liga Nacional de Basquete (LNB; English: National Basketball League), in a new format of Brazil's previous top-tier level basketball competition, the Campeonato Brasileiro de Basquete (Brazilian Basketball Championship). The NBB is managed by the Brazilian basketball associations, which were founding members of the LNB. Format The NBB is the annual basketball league that is promoted by the national Brazilian league (LNB) organizing body, and is endorsed by the Brazilian Basketball Confederation (CFB). The first phase of the season consists of fifteen teams playing against each other, on a home and away basis. Then the top eight teams go to the playoffs, where the top ranked team plays against the one in the eighth place, the second from the top plays the seventh, and so on. São José dos Campos Basketball, or simply Sao José Basketball, is a Brazilian professional basketball club that is based in São José dos Campos, São Paulo State. The club's full name is Associação Esportiva São José dos Campos Basketball. The club plays in the top-tier level league in Brazil, the Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB). History In the 1970s and 1980s, São José was one of the greatest basketball teams in Brazil. In 1980 and 1981 the team won the São Paulo State Championship, plus the Brazilian Basketball Cup (Brazilian Championship), in 1981. But for almost thirty years, São José did not win titles. George "Georginho" Lucas Alves de Paula (born May 24, 1996), commonly known as Georginho, is a Brazilian professional basketball player formerly for Ratiopharm Ulm. Widely regarded as one of the best Brazilian players of his generation, he has known success in Brazil and internationally, winning the BCL Americas and the FIBA Intercontinental Cup in 2023.
