2020–21 Liga De Expansión MX Season
The 2020–21 Liga de Expansión MX season is the first professional season of the second-tier football division in Mexico. The season is divided into two championships—the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura—each in an identical format and each contested by the same sixteen teams. The Apertura tournament started on 18 August 2020 and concluded on 20 December 2020. The Clausura tournament started on 12 January 2021 and will conclude in May 2021. Liga de Expansión MX, also known as Liga BBVA Expansión MX for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Mexico and the second level of the Mexican football league system. It was founded in 2020 as part of the Mexican Football Federation, FMF's "Stabilization Project", which has the primary objective of rescuing the financially troubled teams from the Ascenso MX and prevent the disappearance of a second level league in Mexico. The project also attempts for Liga MX and former Ascenso MX teams to consolidate stable projects with strong administration, finances, and infrastructure. Cimarrones De Sonora
The Cimarrones de Sonora Fútbol Club is a Mexican football club that plays in the Liga Premier de México. The club is based in Hermosillo, Sonora, Mexico. History The "Cimarrones de Sonora" were born in 2013, when the "Rays" of Poblado Miguel Alemán FC became the champions of the Third Division of Mexico and thus were promoted to Second División 2. After the ascent, with the goal of reaching the Liga de Ascenso of Mexico, employers and trustees of Hermosillo origin, led by Edmundo Ruiz, acquired the franchise as a whole, since this had an agreement with the Necaxa. Cafetaleros De Chiapas
Club de Fútbol Cafetaleros de Chiapas was a Mexican football club based in the city of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas currently competing in Liga Premier de México, the third tier of Mexican football. Between 2015 and 2020, the team played at Ascenso MX, the second tier of Mexican football. On June 26, 2020, the club's first-team squad was relocated to Cancún, Quintana Roo and renamed as Cancún F.C., however, Cafetaleros de Chiapas kept the team registered in Liga Premier, which was affiliated with Cancún F.C. between 2020 and 2022. Zacatepec Fútbol Club is a Mexican professional football club based in Zacatepec, Morelos, that competes in Liga Premier, the third level division of Mexican football. Founded in 1948 as Club Social y Deportivo Zacatepec by workers of the Mexican sugar mill called ''Emiliano Zapata''. Liga MX, also known as Liga BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, is a professional association football league in Mexico and the highest level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Liga Mayor (1943–1949) and also as Primera División de México (1949–2012), it has 18 participating clubs, with each season divided into two short tournaments, ''Apertura'' from July to December and ''Clausura'' from January to May. Ascenso MX
Ascenso MX, also known as Ascenso BBVA MX for sponsorship reasons, was a professional association football league in Mexico and the second level of the Mexican football league system. Formerly known as Primera División A de México (1994–2009) and also as Liga de Ascenso (2009–2012). The champions of the competition was promoted to Liga MX (top level), and the bottom team was relegated to Liga Premier (third level). In 2012, the league rebranded its name and competition format as Ascenso MX, the major changes (clubs do not need a FMF certification to be promoted and that the competition no longer used group stages). The Mexican Football Federation (), abbreviated as FMF is the official governing body of football in Mexico.
