2020–21 BYU Cougars Men's Basketball Team
The 2020–21 BYU Cougars men's basketball team represented Brigham Young University in the 2020–21 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was head coach Mark Pope's second season as BYU's head coach and the Cougars tenth season as members of the West Coast Conference (WCC). The Cougars played their home games at the Marriott Center in Provo, Utah. They finished the season 20–7, 10–3 in WCC Play to finish in 2nd place. They beat Pepperdine in the semifinals of the WCC tournament before losing in the championship game to Gonzaga. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the First Round to UCLA. 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2021 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 68 teams to determine the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I men's college basketball national champion for the 2020–21 season. The 82nd edition of the tournament began play on March 18, 2021, in sites around the state of Indiana, and concluded with the championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis on April 5, with the Baylor Bears defeating the previously undefeated Gonzaga Bulldogs 86–70 to earn the team's first ever title. For logistical considerations surrounding the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic (which resulted in the cancellation of the previous year's tournament), the NCAA announced in January 2021 that all tournament games would be held in Indiana rather than at sites across the country. Yoeli Childs
Yoeli Childs (born January 13, 1998) is an American professional basketball player for the Saga Ballooners of the Japanese B.League. He played college basketball for the BYU Cougars. High school career Childs played at Bingham High School, a class 6A high school, in South Jordan, Utah. During his sophomore year, the 2013–14 season, he averaged 11.1 points per game and 5.3 rebounds per game as Bingham advanced to the state quarterfinals. During his junior year, the 2014–15 season, he improved his average points per game to 16.4 and his average rebounds per game to 10.7 when Bingham again reached the state quarterfinals. In the 2015–16 season, Childs, now a senior, averaged 18.5 points per game while he maintained an average of 10.7 rebounds per game and Bingham High School won the state championship. South Jordan is a city in south central Salt Lake County, Utah, United States, south of Salt Lake City. Redshirt, in United States college athletics, is a delay or suspension of an athlete's participation in order to lengthen their period of eligibility. Typically, a student's athletic eligibility in a given sport is four seasons, aligning with the four years of academic classes typically required to earn a bachelor's degree at an American college or university.
