2020 UCI Road World Championships – Women's Road Race
The Women's road race of the 2020 UCI Road World Championships was a cycling event that took place on 26 September 2020 in Imola, Italy. Annemiek van Vleuten was the defending champion. Anna van der Breggen from the Netherlands became the first rider in 25 years to win both the road race and time trial titles at a single World Championships, after a solo attack. She finished 80 seconds clear of her closest competitors, to win her second world title in three years. The silver medal went to compatriot van Vleuten, who was riding the race with a brace on a fractured wrist – having completed a U-turn on competing in the race – following a crash the week prior at the Giro Rosa. The bronze medal was taken by Italy's Elisa Longo Borghini, losing out to van Vleuten in a two-up sprint. Rainbow Jersey
The rainbow jersey is the distinctive cycling jersey, jersey worn by the reigning World Cycling Championship, world champion in a cycling discipline, since 1927. The jersey is predominantly white with five horizontal bands in the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI colours around the chest. From the bottom up the colours are: green, yellow, black, red and blue; the same colours that appear in the rings on the Olympic flag. The tradition is applied to all disciplines, including road bicycle racing, road racing, track cycling, track racing, cyclo-cross, BMX, Trials and the disciplines within mountain biking. A world champion must wear the jersey when competing in the same discipline, category and speciality for which the title was won. Chloé Dygert ( ; born January 1, 1997) is an American professional Bicycle racing, racing cyclist who rides for UCI Women's Team, UCI Women's WorldTeam . She has won eight gold medals at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships and four medals (one gold, one silver, and two bronze) at the Olympic Games. Audrey Cordon-Ragot
Audrey Cordon-Ragot (née Cordon; born 22 September 1989) is a French former road bicycle racer, who last rode for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Career She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the Women's road race, but finished over the time limit. In the Women's time trial she finished 15th. In 2013, Cordon won the general classification of the five-day Tour de Bretagne Féminin. In October 2014, it was announced that Cordon-Ragot would join the team in 2015 as a super-domestique, following her fellow rider Elisa Longo Borghini to the British-based squad. In 2015 and 2016 she won the French National Time Trial Championships. She also competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Chantal Van Den Broek-Blaak
Chantal van den Broek-Blaak (née Blaak; born 22 October 1989) is a Dutch road racing cyclist, who last rode for UCI Women's WorldTeam . In 2017 she became world road race champion in Bergen, Norway. Van den Broek-Blaak also won several classic one-day races including Tour of Flanders, Amstel Gold Race and Strade Bianche. She retired in January 2025. Marlen Reusser (born 20 September 1991) is a Swiss racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Career She took up competitive cycling whilst at university, riding in the cycling legs of mixed relay triathlons as an amateur. She entered the road events of the Swiss national cycling championships in 2017, a few months after receiving a racing licence and whilst in the final year of studies for a degree in medicine: she won the time trial and was runner up in the road race. Her success earned her selection for that year's European Road Championships. She also rode in the women's time trial event at the 2017 UCI Road World Championships. Lisa Brennauer (born 8 June 1988) is a German former Cycle sport, racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2009 and 2022, for six different teams. Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig (born 23 August 1995) is a Danish professional road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Career As a junior, she competed at the 2012 UCI Road World Championships and the 2013 UCI Road World Championships.
