2020 Rugby Europe Championship
The 2020 Rugby Europe Championship is the fourth season of the Rugby Europe International Championships, the premier rugby union competition for European national teams outside the Six Nations Championship. The competing teams are Belgium, Georgia, Romania, Russia and Spain (the top five teams from 2019), and Portugal, who qualified after defeating Germany in the promotion/relegation play-off of the 2019 Championship. Rugby Europe International Championships
The Rugby Europe International Championships is the European Championship for tier 2 and tier 3 rugby union nations. The tournament is the latest formation of a competition with history going back to 1932. At that time, France had been expelled from the then Five Nations, and joined with a number of European teams to found an alternative organisation, the FIRA-AER, International Amateur Rugby Federation (FIRA, now Rugby Europe). While France were eventually readmitted to the Five Nations, the then FIRA-AER continued to run competitions, increasingly taking the role of organiser of European continental rugby below the Five Nations, and in which France continued to compete. The competition expanded and modified under the new Rugby Europe structure, even as France, then Italy, left to compete solely in the Six Nations. Tomás Mourato Vermelho Mega Appleton (born 29 July 1993) is a Portuguese semi-professional rugby union player who plays as a centre for Lusitanos XV and captains the Portugal national team. He is also a qualified and practising dentist. Club career He has played for CDUL since he was 6 years old, and was promoted to the first team in 2011/12. He won the Campeonato Português de Rugby with them in 2011/12, 2013/14 and 2016/17. He spent a season in England at Darlington Mowden Park, in National League One in 2015/16, returning to CDUL afterwards. Patrice Lagisquet (born 4 September 1962) is a former French rugby union player and a current coach. He played as a wing. He was nicknamed "The Bayonne Express". Club career Lagisquet was born in Arcachon. He first played at U.A. Gujan-Mestras, until moving to CA Bègles, where he played from 1980/81 to 1981/82. Then, he would represent Aviron Bayonnais, from 1982/83 to 1991/92, and Biarritz Olympique, from 1992/93 to 1996/97, where he would finish his career. Merab Sharikadze ( ka, მერაბ შარიქაძე; born 17 May 1993) is a Georgian professional rugby union player who plays as a centre for Super Cup club Black Lion and captains the Georgia national team. Early life Merab Sharikadze began rugby in Tbilisi with the club 'Academia'. Aged just 16, he was called up to Georgia U18 team.
