2020 North Carolina Tar Heels Men's Soccer Team
The 2020 North Carolina Tar Heels men's soccer team represented the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during the 2020 NCAA Division I men's soccer season. It was the 74th season of the university fielding a program. The Tar Heels were led by tenth year head coach Carlos Somoano and played their home games at Dorrance Field. The teams' 2020 season was significantly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which curtailed the fall season and caused the NCAA Tournament to be played in spring 2021. The ACC was one of the only two conferences in men's soccer to play in the fall of 2020. The ACC also held a mini-season during the spring of 2021. Carlos Somoano
Carlos Somoano is an American soccer coach, and is currently the head coach of the University of North Carolina North Carolina Tar Heels men's soccer, men's soccer team. In his first season in charge of the Tar Heels, he led the team to the NCAA championship, becoming the second rookie head coach, after Mike Freitag, in NCAA history to do so. Education Somoano received a Bachelor of Science in biology (concentration in pre-medicine) from Eckerd College in 1992. He also earned four letters in soccer and was a two-year team captain. In 2000, he earned a Master's in Sport Management degree from the University of Richmond. Jeremy Kelly (born October 21, 1997) is an American soccer player who plays as a defender for club Crawley Town. Youth Kelly signed an amateur contract with Carolina RailHawks on March 17, 2016. His amateur status would allow him to play college soccer for North Carolina Tar Heels when their college season began later in the year. Kelly played four years at UNC, starting 59 of his 79 appearances and tallying one goals and 2 assists.
