2020 El Paso, Texas Elections
On November 3, 2020 El Paso County elected the mayor of El Paso, Texas, four members of city council (districts 2, 3, 4, and 7), two county commissioners, county sheriff, state senator, and five state representatives. El Pasoans voted for members of the House of Representatives of the United States from the 16th and 23rd districts of Texas, district attorney (which also represents Hudspeth and Culberson counties), United States senator, and president of the United States. The city elections (for mayor and council) are non-partisan, and therefore have no primary election. However, if no candidate wins a majority there will be a run-off election. El Paso County, Texas
El Paso County is the westernmost county in the U.S. state of Texas. As of the 2020 census, the population was 865,657, making it the ninth-most populous county in the state of Texas. Its county seat is the city of El Paso, the sixth-most populous city in Texas and the 22nd-most populous city in the United States. The county was created in 1850 and later organized in 1871. ''El Paso'' is short for "El Paso del Norte", which is Spanish for "The Route of the North". It is named for the pass the Rio Grande creates through the mountains on either side of the river. César Jose Blanco is an American Politician who is currently serving as a member of the Texas Senate. Early life and education Blanco was raised in El Paso by a single mother and graduated from Eastwood High School. Texas state elections in 2020 were held on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Its primaries were held on March 3, 2020, with runoffs taking place on July 14. In addition to the U.S. presidential race, Texas voters elected the Class II U.S. senator from Texas, one of three members of the Texas Railroad Commission, eight of 15 members of the Texas Board of Education, all of its seats to the House of Representatives, four of nine seats on the Supreme Court of Texas, three of nine seats on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, 21 of 80 seats on the Texas Appellate Courts, all of the seats of the Texas House of Representatives and 17 of 34 seats in the Texas State Senate. EPISD
The El Paso Independent School District (or EPISD) is the largest school district serving El Paso, Texas (USA). Originally organized in 1883, it is currently the largest district in the Texas Education Agency's Educational Service Center (ESC) Region 19, as well as the largest district within the city of El Paso and El Paso County. The EPISD also provides public education to the children of U.S. Army soldiers stationed at Fort Bliss. The district headquarters are located in El Paso. Joe Moody (politician)
Joseph Edward Moody (born January 9, 1981) is a lawyer from El Paso, Texas, who serves as Speaker Pro Tempore of the Texas House of Representatives. He has represented District 78, based entirely in El Paso County, since 2013. He is a member of the Democratic Party. Moody previously represented District 78 for the single term from 2009 to 2011. In 2012, he unseated the Republican Dee Margo, Mayor of El Paso from 2017 to 2021. Moody defeated Margo in the general elections of both 2008 and 2012, but Margo prevailed in the 2010 contest, with lowered turnout in a mid-term election. Moody won his fifth nonconsecutive term in the House in the general election held on November 6, 2018. Joseph C. "Joe" Pickett (born December 6, 1956) is an American politician who served as a Democratic member of the Texas House of Representatives from 1995 until his resignation in January 2019.
