2019 World Athletics Championships – Men's High Jump
The men's high jump at the 2019 World Athletics Championships was held at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha from 1 to 4 October. Summary When Qatari officials put together the bid to host these championships, Doha born Mutaz Essa Barshim was a 23 year old already with a World Junior Championship, Olympic bronze and World Championship silver to his name. Qatari officials could see the potential. This was the day they were waiting for, when a now 28 year old was jumping at home. Now there was a bonus, he was defending champion. The finals pared down to 7 over 2.30m. At 2.33m, Mikhail Akimenko got over on his first attempt to maintain a clean round and Maksim Nedasekau also was over on his first attempt. Khalifa International Stadium
Khalifa International Stadium (, , ) is a multi-purpose stadium located in Doha, Qatar, around west from the centre of Doha. Its ground comprises a running track and a Pitch (sports field), grass pitch. Opened in 1976, the stadium was named after then Emir of Qatar Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani. Michael Mason (high Jumper)
Michael Robert Christopher Mason (born 30 September 1986) is a Canadians, Canadian high jumper. The 2004 World Junior champion, he has represented Canada at the 2008 Summer Olympics, 2008 IAAF World Indoor Championships, 2010 Commonwealth Games, 2012 Summer Olympics, 2014 Commonwealth Games, 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2015 Pan American Games. His personal best for the event is 2.33 metres. Career He won the 2004 World Junior Championships in Athletics, IAAF World Junior Championships gold medal in 2004. Jacques Freitag
Jacques Freitag (11 June 1982 – ) was a South African high jumper. Freitag is one of only eleven athletes (along with Valerie Adams, Usain Bolt, Veronica Campbell-Brown, Armand Duplantis, Yelena Isinbayeva, Kirani James, Faith Kipyegon, Jana Pittman, Dani Samuels, and David Storl) to win World Championship titles at the youth, junior, and senior levels of an athletic event. Freitag grew up in Bronkhorstspruit, Gauteng (50 km east of Pretoria). His mother, Hendrina Pieters, was South African high jump champion in 1973 with a personal best of 1.74 metres. Bohdan Viktorovych Bondarenko (; born August 30, 1989) is a Ukrainian high jumper. He is the 2013 World champion, 2014 European champion, and 2016 Olympic bronze medalist. Bondarenko uses the Fosbury Flop technique, jumping off his right leg. He is one of the tallest high jumpers competing on the elite Diamond League circuit, standing 1.98 meters (6' 6"). On 14 June 2014, he achieved his personal best jump of 2.42 metres at the 2014 IAAF Diamond League event in New York City.
