2019 World Athletics Championships – Men's Shot Put
The men's shot put at the 2019 World Athletics Championships was held at the Khalifa International Stadium in Doha from 3 to 5 October 2019. The winning margin was 1 cm which as of 2024 is the only time the men's shot put has been won by under 5 cm at these championships. Summary It took 20.90 to automatically qualify. Exactly 12 men made that distance, eight of them on their first attempt. There were no further place qualifiers to the final. This was the cap to a build up of several strong athletes. Four members of the 74 foot club were here, with Darlan Romani joining in 2019 and Ryan Crouser improving his personal best to #6 all time. Eric Randolph Barnes (born June 16, 1966) is an American former shot putter who held the outdoor world record for the event from 1990 to 2021. He won silver at the 1988 Olympics and gold at the 1996 Olympics. Only three throwers have been within of his outdoor world record since it was set. Werner Günthör (born 1 June 1961 in Uttwil) is a former Switzerland, Swiss track and field athlete, who was the best shot putter in the history of Swiss track and field. Biography Günthör won three straight World Championships, 1987 World Championships in Athletics, 1987, 1991 World Championships in Athletics, 1991, and 1993 World Championships in Athletics, 1993, as well as one European Championship in 1986 European Championships in Athletics, 1986.
