2019 UCI Road World Championships – Women's Road Race
The Women's road race of the 2019 UCI Road World Championships was a cycling event that took place on 28 September 2019 in Yorkshire, England. It started in Bradford and finished in Harrogate, after three laps in Harrogate. Dutch cyclist Annemiek van Vleuten won the race, after a solo breakaway for more than . Defending champion Anna van der Breggen, also of the Netherlands, finished as runner-up, with Australian cyclist Amanda Spratt finishing in third. Qualification Participating nations 152 cyclists from 49 nations were entered in the women's road race, however Luxembourg's Anne-Sophie Harsch did not start the event. Rainbow Jersey
The rainbow jersey is the distinctive cycling jersey, jersey worn by the reigning World Cycling Championship, world champion in a cycling discipline, since 1927. The jersey is predominantly white with five horizontal bands in the Union Cycliste Internationale, UCI colours around the chest. From the bottom up the colours are: green, yellow, black, red and blue; the same colours that appear in the rings on the Olympic flag. The tradition is applied to all disciplines, including road bicycle racing, road racing, track cycling, track racing, cyclo-cross, BMX, Trials and the disciplines within mountain biking. Lisa Brennauer (born 8 June 1988) is a German former Cycle sport, racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2009 and 2022, for six different teams. On the track, Brennauer won the gold medal at the 2020 Summer Olympics in the Cycling at the 2020 Summer Olympics – Women's team pursuit, women's team pursuit with Mieke Kröger, Lisa Klein (cyclist), Lisa Klein and Franziska Brauße, setting the new world record. Anna Henderson
Anna Louise Henderson (born 14 November 1998) is a British professional racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's World Tour Team . She took a silver medal in the time trial at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Early life and career Henderson was born in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire in 1998 and grew up in Edlesborough in Buckinghamshire. She attended Aylesbury High School. Growing up, her ambition was to win an Olympic medal in the Winter Olympics. She was a competitive international ski racer, however in 2015, a major crash in the National Championships in Tignes forced Henderson to step back from Skiing and used cycling as a rehab method, she then changed her interest to cycling. Elise Chabbey (born 24 April 1993 in Geneva) is a Swiss road racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Amy Pieters (born 1 June 1991) is a Dutch professional road and track cyclist, who is contracted to ride for UCI Women's WorldTeam . She was a member of the Dutch team that finished sixth at the 2012 Summer Olympics in the team pursuit (together with Ellen van Dijk, Kirsten Wild and Vera Koedooder). On 23 December 2021, Pieters was placed in an induced coma and underwent emergency surgery to relieve pressure on her brain caused by a fall that day during a training ride near Alicante with the Dutch national track team. Alena Vasileŭna Amialiusik (; born 6 February 1989) is a Belarusian road bicycle racer, who rides for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Audrey Cordon-Ragot (née Cordon; born 22 September 1989) is a French former road bicycle racer, who last rode for UCI Women's WorldTeam . Sofie De Vuyst (born 2 April 1987) is a Belgian former racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2006 and 2019. Between 2010 and 2016 she competed in every UCI Road World Championships. She was voted 2019 Flandrienne of the Year (best Belgian female cyclist). In September 2019, De Vuyst tested positive for an exogenous steroid in an out of competition control. De Vuyst's positive test came on 18 September, in the week after the Belgium Tour, where she finished seventh overall and won the mountains classification, and before the UCI Road World Championships. Amalie Dideriksen (born 24 May 1996) is a Danish road and track cyclist, who rides for UCI Women's ProTeam . Career She won the junior women's road race at the World Championships in 2013 and 2014 as well as a bronze medal in the scratch race at the 2013 UCI Juniors Track World Championships. In both 2014 and 2015, she won the Danish national road race championship and in 2015, she also won silver in the women's omnium at the European Track Championships. Dideriksen participated in the women's omnium at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Ranking 9th after the flying lap, she surprised everyone by winning the points race thus elevating her to an overall 5th place.
