2019 Men's EuroHockey Nations Championship
The 2019 Men's EuroHockey Championship was the 17th edition of the EuroHockey Nations Championship, the biennial international men's field hockey championship of Europe organised by the European Hockey Federation. It was held alongside the women's tournament from 16 to 24 August 2019 in Antwerp, Belgium. The tournament also served as a direct qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, with the winner Belgium qualifying. The hosts Belgium won their first-ever European title after beating Spain 5–0 in the final. The two-time defending champions the Netherlands won the bronze medal by defeating Germany 4–0. Gareth Furlong
Gareth Furlong (born 10 May 1992) is a Welsh field hockey player, who competed at the 2024 Summer Olympics. Biography Furlong, born in Cambridge, began playing club hockey for Cambridge Nomads before joining Harleston Magpies. He made his Welsh senior debut against the United States in 2010 He studied Sport Science at Sheffield Hallam University and duly played for Sheffield Hallam HC and was called up to represent Wales in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. He later played for Surbiton Hockey Club, where he won the league title in both the 17/18 and 18/19 seasons and was selected to represent Wales at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast. Furlong then moved to the Netherlands to play for HC Tilburg which was split for one season with Cardiff & Met, while he completed a masters degree. James Richard Gall (born 20 May 1995) is an English field hockey player who plays as a midfielder for Surbiton and the England and Great Britain national teams. He competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Biography Gall was educated at Cranleigh School, Surrey and began his hockey career with Surbiton, making his league debut in 2016. He played for England under-21 in the 2013 and 2016 Junior World Cups and won a bronze medal at the 2014 European under-21 championships. Samuel Ian Ward (born 24 December 1990), known as Sam Ward, is an English field hockey player who plays as a forward for Old Georgians and the England and Great Britain national teams. He competed at three Olympic Games. Biography Ward played club hockey Leicester, Beeston (3 spells), Loughborough Students. Antoine Sylvain Kina (born 13 February 1996) is a Belgian professional field hockey player who plays as a midfielder or forward for Gantoise and the Belgium national team. He is the son of Belgian field hockey coach Pascal Kina. Club career Kina played for Gantoise until 2017, when he moved to the Waterloo Ducks. After one season with the Waterloo Ducks, he returned to Gantoise. In the 2024–25 season he won the Euro Hockey League with Gantoise beating record-champions Bloemendaal 5–2 in the final. The Men's EuroHockey Championship II, formerly known as the Men's EuroHockey Nations Trophy, is a competition for European national field hockey teams. It is the second level of European field hockey Championships for national teams.
