2019 MEAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference. The tournament was held from March 11 through March 16, 2019 at the Norfolk Scope in Norfolk, Virginia. 2018–19 North Carolina Central Eagles men's basketball team, North Carolina Central defeated 2018–19 Norfolk State Spartans men's basketball team, Norfolk State 50–47 in the championship game to win the tournament, and received the conference's automatic bid to the 2019 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, 2019 NCAA tournament. It was the third consecutive championship for North Carolina Central, and fourth in the last six seasons. Norfolk Scope
Norfolk Scope is a multi-function complex in Norfolk, Virginia, comprising the 11,000-seat Scope Arena, a 2,500-seat theater known as Chrysler Hall, a modular exhibition hall, and a 600-car parking garage. The arena was designed by Italian architect/engineer Pier Luigi Nervi in conjunction with the (now defunct) local firm Williams and Tazewell, which designed the entire complex. Nervi's design for the arena's reinforced concrete dome derived from the PalaLottomatica and the much smaller Palazzetto dello Sport, which were built in the 1950s for the 1960 Summer Olympics in Rome. Construction on Scope began in June 1968 at the northern perimeter of Norfolk's downtown and was completed in 1971 at a cost of United States dollar, $35 million. The 2018–19 Delaware State Hornets men's basketball team represented Delaware State University in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They played their home games at Memorial Hall in Dover, Delaware, and were led by 1st-year head coach Eric Skeeters. Previous season The Hornets finished the 2017–18 season 4–28, 2–14 in the MEAC play to finish in last place. They lost in the first round of the MEAC tournament to North Carolina A&T. They lost every game on the road and on a neutral court, with both of their non-conference victories coming against non-Division I schools. They had the dubious distinction of finishing the season 351st in RPI out of the 351 teams in the NCAA.
