2019 City Of York Council Election
Elections to City of York Council were held on 2 May 2019, as part of the United Kingdom local elections. The election resulted in substantial gains for the Liberal Democrats, who became the largest party, although no party surpassed the 24-seat majority threshold. The Conservatives suffered badly in this election, and lost 12 of the 14 seats they had won at the previous election. The Green Party held all their four seats, and surpassed the Conservatives in the popular vote. Labour gained two seats, although they failed to gain support in rural areas, where voters favoured the Liberal Democrats. The 2015 City of York Council election took place on 7 May 2015 to elect members of City of York Council in England. The whole council was up for election. Turnout was substantially up across the city due to the election being held on the same day as the 2015 United Kingdom general election, general election and other 2015 United Kingdom local elections, local elections in England. Since the previous election in 2011 City of York Council election, 2011 a review of ward boundaries had affected some wards, although the total number of councillors remained at 47. The following wards remained unchanged from 2011: Acomb, Bishopthorpe, Dringhouses and Woodthorpe, Haxby and Wigginton, Holgate, Huntington and New Earswick, Micklegate, Strensall, Westfield and Wheldrake. Jonathan Tyler
Jonathan Tyler is a Green Party activist and academic. Tyler was an early parliamentary candidate for the Ecology Party, in the 1976 Walsall North by-election, at a time when he was a transport lecturer at the University of Birmingham. He was the Ecology Party's Chairman for some years from 1976. Tyler would later go on to stand as a candidate in local elections. During the 1980s he was associated with attempts by the 'Maingreen' group to streamline the Green Party's internal workings. He subsequently left the Green Party, but rejoined some years later. Tyler joined British Rail as a Traffic Apprentice in 1962. He became a British Rail-sponsored university lecturer and since 2000 has run a consultancy called Passenger Transport Networks. Lars Martin Kramm is a British-German politician and scouting official who served as the Regional Chair of the European Regional Scout Committee of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) in the time from 2019-2022. Scouting Lars Kramm first got involved in German Scouting by joining his local DPSG Cub Scout Pack in 1994 and followed the youth programme through. He became a Cub Scout Leader, Scout Leader, Group Scout Leader and later District Commissioner for Scouts in Essen-South. Kramm was a member of Deutsche Pfadfinderschaft Sankt Georg's International Team between 2007 and 2016 and became International Commissioner in 2008. The 2019 United Kingdom local elections took place on Thursday 2 May 2019, with 248 English local councils, six directly elected mayors in England, and all 11 local councils in Northern Ireland being contested. A total of 8,886 councillors were elected: terms were up for 8,861 seats, but eight elections for a total of 14 seats were postponed due to the death of a candidate; there were also casual vacancies to be filled: 38 in England (including on nine councils with no other elections) and one on Dundee City Council in Scotland. City of York Council is the local authority for the city of York, in the ceremonial county of North Yorkshire, England. York has had a city council from medieval times, which has been reformed on numerous occasions. Since 1996 the council has been a unitary authority, being a district council which also performs the functions of a county council.
