2018–19 Vermont Catamounts Men's Basketball Team
The 2018–19 Vermont Catamounts men's basketball team represented the University of Vermont in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. They played their home games at the Patrick Gym in Burlington, Vermont and were led by 8th-year head coach John Becker. They finished the season 27–7, 14–2 in America East play to win the regular season championship. They defeated Maine, Binghamton, and UMBC to be champions of the America East tournament. They earned the America East's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament where they lost in the first round to Florida State. Previous season The Catamounts finished the 2017–18 season 27–8, 15–1 in the America East Conference play to finish in first place. John Becker (basketball)
John Becker (born April 17, 1968) is an American college basketball coach, currently the head coach of the Vermont Catamounts of the America East Conference. He replaced Mike Lonergan, who left to become the coach at George Washington University. On January 5, 2023, Becker became the winningest coach in Vermont history, with a 74–64 win over Bryant, surpassing Tom Brennan. Coaching career Gallaudet/Catholic University Becker's college coaching career began in 1994 when he became an assistant at Gallaudet University in Washington D.C. In 1997, Becker was elevated to head coach of the Bison, where he served from 1997 to 1999. Becker also served as the men's tennis coach, despite never playing the game, and also worked in the information technology field, as the coaching positions were part-time. 2018 National Invitation Tournament
The 2018 National Invitation Tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 32 NCAA Division I college men's basketball teams that were not selected to participate in the 2018 NCAA tournament. The first three rounds of the annual tournament were played on campus sites (the host team being the higher-seeded team). The semifinals and championship game were held at Madison Square Garden in New York City. Experimental rules In February 2018, the NCAA approved a number of experimental rule changes for use in this tournament: * Games were played in 10-minute quarters instead of 20-minute halves. The NCAA has used this timing convention for women's basketball since the 2015–16 season. * As in NCAA women's basketball, as well as the 2017 NIT, there were no "one-and-one" foul shots. Gould Academy
Gould Academy is a private, co-ed, college preparatory boarding school, boarding and day school, day school founded in 1836 and located in the small town of Bethel, Maine, United States. History In 1835 citizens of Bethel, Maine, formed an organization as trustees of the Bethel High School. A hall was fitted up for a schoolroom, and N. T. True was employed as principal. Encouraged by their success, the trustees reorganized and obtained a charter for an Academy, which by act of the Legislature on January 27, 1836, was incorporated as Bethel Academy.
