2018–19 Murray State Racers Men's Basketball Team
The 2018–19 Murray State Racers men's basketball team represented Murray State University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Racers, led by fourth-year head coach Matt McMahon, played their home games at the CFSB Center in Murray, Kentucky as members of the Ohio Valley Conference. They finished the season 28–5, 16–2 in OVC play to finish second to Belmont on a tiebreaker for the regular season championship with Belmont. They defeated Jacksonville State and upset the short-handed Belmont Bruins to be champions of the OVC tournament. They earned the OVC's automatic-bid to the NCAA tournament where they defeated Marquette in the first round before losing in the second round to Florida State. Matt McMahon (basketball)
Matthew Joseph McMahon (born April 26, 1978) is the current men's college basketball head coach for LSU Tigers men's basketball, Louisiana State University. McMahon was formerly the men's basketball coach at Murray State University. In his third year leading the program, McMahon led the Racers to a 26–6 record that included Ohio Valley Conference regular-season and tournament championships. The 2018 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament was a single-elimination tournament of 68 teams to determine the men's National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division I college basketball national champion for the 2017–18 season. The 80th annual edition of the tournament began on March 13, 2018, and concluded with the championship game on April 2, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. During the first round, UMBC became the first 16-seed to defeat a 1-seed in the men's tournament by defeating Virginia 74–54.
