2018–19 Michigan State Spartans Women's Basketball Team
The 2018–19 Michigan State Spartans women's basketball team represented Michigan State University during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The Spartans, led by 12th-year head coach Suzy Merchant, played their home games at the Breslin Center in East Lansing, Michigan as members of the Big Ten Conference. They finished with a record of 25–12, 9–9 in Big Ten play to finish in a 4 way tie for sixth place. They advanced to the quarterfinals of the Big Ten women's tournament where they lost to Maryland. They received an at-large bid to the NCAA women's tournament where they defeated Central Michigan in the first round before losing to Notre Dame in the second round. Suzy Merchant
Suzy Merchant (born July 26, 1969) most recently served as head basketball coach for the Michigan State University Women's Basketball team. She is married to Gary Rakan and has two sons, Tyler Rakan and Brady Rakan. Coaching career Saginaw Valley State After inheriting a team with a losing record, Merchant quickly built the SVSU program into a winner, compiling a 54–29 record during her three-year tenure as head coach. During her first season, the team earned a 15–11 record before going 19–11 in the following year. The latter achievement earned the team a berth into the NCAA Division II Tournament for the second time in school history. In her final season, Saginaw Valley State collected a 20–7 record, and was ranked as high as 15th in the nation during the season. Bedford North Lawrence High School is a comprehensive, four-year public high school located in the eastern part of Bedford, Indiana.
