2018–19 Liberty Flames Basketball Team
The 2018–19 Liberty Flames men's basketball team represented Liberty University in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team played its home games in Lynchburg, Virginia for the 29th consecutive season at Vines Center, with a capacity of 8,085. The team was led by Ritchie McKay, in his sixth season, but fourth season since his return to the program. They were first-year members of the ASUN Conference. They finished the season 29–7, 14–2 in ASUN play to share the regular season championship with Lipscomb. They defeated Jacksonville, North Florida and Lipscomb to be champions of the ASUN tournament. Ritchie McKay
Ritchie Lawrence McKay (born April 22, 1965) is an American basketball coach who is in his second stint as the head coach of the Liberty Flames basketball, Liberty Flames of Liberty University. McKay for the previous six seasons had been the associate head coach to Tony Bennett (basketball), Tony Bennett for the Virginia Cavaliers men's basketball, Virginia Cavaliers at the University of Virginia. He had previously been the head coach of New Mexico Lobos men's basketball, New Mexico, Oregon State Beavers men's basketball, Oregon State, Colorado State Rams men's basketball, Colorado State, and Portland State Vikings men's basketball, Portland State. On April 3, 2009, McKay was hand-selected by Bennett and lured from his head coaching position at Liberty to become associate head coach at Virginia. 2018 Big South Conference Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2018 Big South men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament that ended the 2017–18 season of the Big South Conference. It was held from February 27 through March 4, 2018 at various campus sites. No. 2 seed Radford defeated No. 5 seed Liberty in the championship game to win the tournament and receive the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Sites The first round was played at campus sites, at the home of the higher seed. The quarterfinals and semifinals were played at Kimmel Arena in Asheville, North Carolina, home of regular-season champion UNC Asheville. The championship game was held at the home arena of the higher surviving seed among the two finalists—in this case Radford's home of the Dedmon Center in Radford, Virginia. Jim Phelan (basketball)
James Joseph Phelan (March 19, 1929 – June 15, 2021) was an American college basketball coach. He is best known for his 49-year coaching career at Mount Saint Mary's University. Phelan was a 1951 graduate of La Salle University and played one season for the Philadelphia Warriors of the NBA. He was famous for wearing a bow tie on the sidelines. Early life Born in Philadelphia, Phelan graduated from La Salle College High School in 1947 and La Salle University in 1951. From 1951 to 1953, during the Korean War, Phelan served in the United States Marine Corps.
