2018–19 Incarnate Word Cardinals Men's Basketball Team
The 2018–19 Incarnate Word Cardinals men's basketball team represent the University of the Incarnate Word during the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Cardinals are led by 1st-year head coach Carson Cunningham and play their home games at McDermott Convocation Center in San Antonio, Texas as members of the Southland Conference. Previous season The Cardinals finished the 2017–18 season 7–21, 2–16 in Southland play to finish in a tie for 11th place. They failed to qualify for the Southland tournament. The season marked the Cardinals' first full season as a Division I school after a four-year transition period from Division II to Division I and were thus eligible for postseason play. Carson Cunningham
Carson Cunningham (born May 7, 1977) is an American basketball coach and author who is currently an assistant coach for the Missouri State Bears basketball team. He is the former head coach of the Incarnate Word Cardinals men's basketball team. Playing career Cunningham was a standout basketball player at Andrean High School in Merrillville, Indiana, where he was a four-year letterwinner and a three-time first team all-area selection, as well as first team all-state selection and USA Today honorable mention All-American as a senior. Playing his freshman season of college basketball at Oregon State, Cunningham averaged 14.9 points per game, earning a place on the 1997 Pacific 10 All-Freshman team. Cunningham would transfer back to the state of Indiana, enrolling at Purdue to play under Gene Keady and was part of the Boilermakers 1999 Sweet 16 and 2000 Elite Eight squads. The Murray State Racers men's basketball program represents Murray State University in intercollegiate men's basketball. Murray State is a member of the Missouri Valley Conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), having joined that conference in 2022 after 74 seasons in the Ohio Valley Conference.
