2018–19 Alabama Crimson Tide Men's Basketball Team
The 2018–19 Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team represented the University of Alabama in the 2018–19 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The team was led by fourth-year head coach Avery Johnson and played its home games at Coleman Coliseum in Tuscaloosa, Alabama as a member of the Southeastern Conference. They finished the season 18–16, 8–10 in SEC play to finish in a tie for ninth place in SEC play. They defeated Ole Miss to advance to the quarterfinals of the SEC tournament where they lost to Kentucky. They received an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament where they lost in the first round to Norfolk State. On March 24, 2019, the school fired head coach Avery Johnson. Avery Johnson
Avery DeWitt Johnson (born March 25, 1965) is an American basketball television commentator, former player and coach who previously served as head coach of the Alabama Crimson Tide men's basketball team. He is an NBA and college basketball analyst for CBS Sports. Johnson spent 16 years in the National Basketball Association as a player, and subsequently served as the head coach of two NBA teams: the Dallas Mavericks and New Jersey/Brooklyn Nets. He led the Mavericks to their first NBA Finals appearance and to three consecutive 50+ win seasons. During his playing days, Johnson was known as the "Little General" for his small stature (by NBA standards), his leadership skills as a point guard, and his close friendship with former San Antonio Spurs teammate David Robinson. The Cleveland Cavaliers, often referred to as the Cavs, are an American professional basketball team based in Cleveland. The 2018 NBA Draft was held on June 21, 2018, at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Collin Darnel Sexton (born January 4, 1999) is an American professional basketball player for the Utah Jazz of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Alabama Crimson Tide. In January 2017, Sexton was selected as a McDonald's All-American.
