2018 World Weightlifting Championships
The 2018 World Weightlifting Championships were held in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan from 1 to 10 November 2018. This was the first World Championship after the International Weightlifting Federation, IWF changed their weight classes and nullified all world records. As a result, this World Championship saw a total of 31 senior World record progression men's weightlifting, men's world records and 41 senior World record progression women's weightlifting, women's world records set. To celebrate the event, then-President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow lifted a golden weight bar, albeit without any actual weights, during a cabinet meeting while his subordinates applauded him. The bizarre scene, broadcast on state media, was met with ridicule by worldwide press. He won the bronze medal in the men's 81kg event at the 2023 World Weightlifting Championships held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Achinta Sheuli
Achinta Sheuli (born 24 November 2001) is an Indian weightlifter who competes in the 73 kg weight class. At the 2022 Commonwealth Games, he set a Games record of 313 kg and won gold. He lifted 143 kg in snatch (Games Record & equal to his previous personal best) and 170 kg in clean & jerk. He won the silver medal at the 2021 Junior World Weightlifting Championships and is a two-time Commonwealth Championships gold medalist.
