2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Men's Heptathlon
The men's heptathlon at the 2018 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 2 and 3 March 2018. The winning margin was 5 points which as of July 2024 remains the joint-narrowest winning margin in the men's heptathlon at these championships. The gold medallist achieved the best score in the shot put. Arena Birmingham
Utilita Arena Birmingham (previously known as Arena Birmingham, The Barclaycard Arena, originally as the National Indoor Arena and still commonly called The NIA) is an indoor arena and sporting venue in central Birmingham, England. It is owned by parent company the NEC Group. When it was opened in 1991, it was the largest indoor arena in the UK. The arena is located alongside the BCN Main Line, Birmingham Canal Navigations Main Line's Old Turn Junction and opposite the National Sea Life Centre (Birmingham), National Sea Life Centre in Brindleyplace. The building straddles the main Rugby–Birmingham–Stafford line, Birmingham to Wolverhampton Intercity railway line (originally the Stour Valley Line), but does not have a station of its own. Eelco Sintnicolaas (; born 7 April 1987) is a Dutch track and field athlete, specialising in the decathlon. His personal best in the decathlon is a score of 8.052 points at the Götzis Meeting in 2009. That same year he earned a gold medal at the U23 European Championships, with 8.112 points, whereas his best result was a silver medal at the 2010 European Championships in Athletics in Barcelona with 8.436 points. At the Götzis Meeting in 2012 he finished second with personal best result 8506 pts. High Jump
The high jump is a track and field event in which competitors must jump unaided over a horizontal bar placed at measured heights without dislodging it. In its modern, most-practiced format, a bar is placed between two standards with a crash mat for landing. Since ancient times, competitors have successively improved their technique until developing the universally preferred Fosbury Flop, in which athletes run towards the bar and leap head first with their back to the bar. The discipline is, alongside the pole vault, one of two vertical clearance events in the Athletics at the Summer Olympics, Olympic athletics program. Long Jump
The long jump is a track and field event in which athletes combine speed, strength and agility in an attempt to leap as far as possible from a takeoff point. Along with the triple jump, the two events that measure jumping for distance as a group are referred to as the "horizontal jumps". 60 Metres
60 metres, or 60-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field. It is a championship event for indoor championships, normally dominated by the best outdoor 100 metres runners. At indoor events, the 60 metres is run on lanes set out in the middle of the 'field', as is the hurdles event over the same distance, thus avoiding some of the effects of the banked track encircling the venue, upon which other track events in indoor events are run. At outdoor venues it is a rare distance, at least for senior athletes. The format of the event is similar to other sprint distances. The sprinters follow three initial instructions: 'on your marks', instructing them to take up position in the starting blocks; 'set', instructing them to adopt a more efficient starting posture, which also isometrically preloads their muscles. Kurt Felix (born 4 July 1988) is a Grenada, Grenadian athlete who competes in the decathlon. He was the NCAA 2012 Division I Decathlon Champion and was named the Mountain West Men's Outdoor Track and Field Student-Athlete of the Year. He competed at the Athletics at the 2012 Summer Olympics – Men's decathlon, 2012 Summer Olympics and the Athletics at the 2016 Summer Olympics – Men's decathlon, 2016 Summer Olympics and won the bronze medal at the 2014 Commonwealth Games. On 24–25 July 2017, Kurt participated in the 21st Stadtwerke Ratingen Mehrkampf-meeting which was part of the IAAF Combined Events Challenge. Lindon Victor
Lindon Victor (born 28 February 1993) is a Grenadian athlete who competes in the decathlon. He is the 2023 World and 2024 Olympic bronze medalist and a two-time Commonwealth Games champion (2018–2022). Career Victor began his college career at Benedictine College in Atchison, Kansas, later transferring to Texas A&M University. In 2016, he scored 8446 points with nine personal bests at the Southeastern Conference Championship decathlon, breaking both the SEC record and the Grenadian National Record, the latter of which was set by his brother, Kurt Felix, at the 2015 IAAF World Championships.
