The 69th UWW European Wrestling Championships was held in Kaspiysk, Dagestan, Russia, between 30 April and 6 May 2018. On 13 March, Ukraine and Great Britain announced they would not participate at the championships due to political reasons. However, on 16 April the Ukrainian Wrestling Association overruled their decision. Kaspiysk (; Lezgin: Каспи ; ) is a city in Dagestan, Russia, located on the Caspian Sea, southeast of Makhachkala. The 2010 Russian census recorded the city as being the fourth-largest in Dagestan. It is a working-class satellite city to Makhachkala. Geography Climate Kaspiysk has a cold semi-arid climate (Köppen climate classification: ''BSk''). History The city is one of the newer urban centers in Dagestan. It began in 1932 as a worker's encampment, servicing the needs of the nearby naval diesel engine manufacturer, Dagdizel. At the time, it was called ''Dvigatelstroy'' (), based upon the Russian word for "engine". During World War II, the site saw much growth due to the war effort, and became a center for major arms producers. In 1947, the settlement received the status of a city, and was given its current name, reflecting its location on the shores of the Caspian Sea. Jenny Fransson
Jenny Fransson (born 18 July 1987 in Karlstad) is a female freestyle wrestler from Sweden who participated in women's freestyle wrestling 72 kg at the 2008, 2012 and 2016 Summer Olympics. At the 2008 Summer Olympics, in the 1/8 final she lost 1:3 to Wang Jiao, then in the repechage round Fransson lost to Ali Bernard from United States. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, she reached the second round, where she lost to Stanka Zlateva. In the repechage she lost to Vasilisa Marzalyuk. At the 2016 Summer Olympics, she won a bronze medal, coming through the repechage. Anastasiya Zimiankova is a Belarusian Freestyle wrestling, freestyle wrestler. She won the silver medal in the 2018 European Wrestling Championships – Women's freestyle 72 kg, 72kg event at the 2018 European Wrestling Championships held in Kaspiysk, Russia. Cynthia Vanessa Vescan (born 7 February 1992) is a French freestyle wrestler of Romanian origin. Background and wrestling career Vescan was born in Strasbourg, France. A pin, or fall, is a victory condition in various forms of wrestling that is met by holding an opponent's shoulders or scapulae (shoulder blades) on the wrestling mat for a prescribed period of time. This article deals with the pin as it is defined in amateur wrestling. A pin ends a match regardless of when it occurs.
