2017–18 San Diego Toreros Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 San Diego Toreros men's basketball team represented the University of San Diego during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. This was head coach Lamont Smith (basketball), Lamont Smith's third season at San Diego. The Toreros competed in the West Coast Conference and played their home games at the Jenny Craig Pavilion. They finished the season 20–14, 9–9 in WCC play to finish in a three-way tie for fourth place. They lost to 2017–18 BYU Cougars men's basketball team, BYU in the quarterfinals of the 2018 West Coast Conference men's basketball tournament, WCC tournament. Lamont Smith (basketball)
Allen Lamont Smith (born October 19, 1975) is an American former college basketball coach, who was most recently an assistant coach at the University of Texas at El Paso for the UTEP Miners men's basketball team. He was previously the head coach at his alma mater San Diego Toreros men's basketball, University of San Diego, which he left in March 2018. Smith resigned from UTEP in March 2019 after the University of San Diego revealed that Smith was accused of accepting a bribe in the 2019 college admissions bribery scandal. Early life Born and raised in The Colony, Texas, Smith played for the San Diego Toreros men's basketball, San Diego Toreros from 1995 to 1999. 2016–17 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Season
The 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 11, 2016. The first early-season tournaments were the 2K Sports Classic, Charleston Classic, and Puerto Rico Tip-Off. The season ended with the 2017 NCAA Division I men's basketball tournament, whose Final Four was played at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, on April 1, 2017, followed by the national championship game on April 3. Practices officially began on September 30, 2016. Rule changes The only rule change for the regular season was allowing coaches to ask for timeouts in situations of inbounds on offense or defense. Coaches are still not permitted to call timeouts in live-ball situations. The Portland State Vikings men's basketball team represents Portland State University in Portland, Oregon.
