2017–18 Samford Bulldogs Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Samford Bulldogs men's basketball team represented Samford University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Bulldogs, led by fourth-year head coach Scott Padgett, played their home games at the Pete Hanna Center in Homewood, Alabama as members of the Southern Conference. They finished the season 10–22, 6–12 in SoCon play to finish in seventh place. They lost in the first round of the SoCon tournament to Chattanooga. Previous season The Bulldogs finished the 2016–17 season 20–16, 8–10 in SoCon play to finish in seventh place. They defeated VMI in the first round of the SoCon tournament before losing in the quarterfinals to Furman. Scott Padgett
Scott Anthony Padgett (born April 19, 1976) is an American former professional basketball player and current assistant to the head coach for Mississippi State men's basketball. He was formerly the head coach at Samford University. He played for the National Basketball Association's Utah Jazz, Houston Rockets, New Jersey Nets and Memphis Grizzlies. High school Padgett was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. He played basketball at St. Xavier High School in Louisville, was recruited by head coach Rick Pitino and committed to play college basketball for the University of Kentucky. College Padgett saw limited playing time during his freshman season (1994–95) on a roster that included future NBA players Wayne Turner, Tony Delk, Rodrick Rhodes, Walter McCarty, Jeff Sheppard, Mark Pope and Antoine Walker. Carbon Hill is a city in Walker County, Alabama, United States. It incorporated in February 1891. At the 2010 census the population was 2,021, down from 2,071 in 2000.
