2017–18 Saint Peter's Peacocks Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Saint Peter's Peacocks basketball team represented Saint Peter's University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Peacocks, led by 12th-year head coach John Dunne, played their home games at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, New Jersey as members of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). They finished the season 14–18 overall, 6–12 in MAAC play, to finish in ninth place. As the No. 9 seed at the MAAC tournament, they defeated No. 8 seed Monmouth and upset No. 1 seed Rider to advance to the semifinals, where they lost to No. 4 seed Iona. After the end of the season, head coach John Dunne left Saint Peter's to take the same position at Marist College. On April 10, 2018, Seton Hall assistant coach Shaheen Holloway was hired as his replacement. John Dunne (basketball)
John Dunne (born June 11, 1970) is an American college basketball coach and current head men's basketball coach at Marist College. He was previously an assistant coach at Adelphi University under Steve Clifford and at Seton Hall University under Louis Orr. He also served as an assistant coach at Siena College. Dunne was born in Queens, New York and attended Archbishop Molloy High School, where he also played basketball. He played at the collegiate level at Ithaca College. Dunne was hired by Saint Peter's University as their men's basketball coach in 2006. While at Saint Peter's, he became the first coach in MAAC history to bring a No. 9 seed to the semifinals of the 2018 MAAC men's basketball tournament, MAAC tournament, when Saint Peter's University beat No. 1 seeded Rider University 66–55 on March 2, 2018. 2017 MAAC Men's Basketball Tournament
The 2017 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference men's basketball tournament was the postseason men's basketball tournament for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference for the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was held from March 2–6, 2017 at the Times Union Center in Albany, New York. No. 3 seed Iona defeated No. 4 seed Siena 87–86 in overtime in the tournament championship game. As a result, Iona received the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. The championship marked Iona's 10th MAAC title, the most in MAAC Tournament history, and the second consecutive MAAC Tournament championship for the Gaels.
