2017–18 Oregon Ducks Men's Basketball Team
The 2017–18 Oregon Ducks men's basketball team represented the University of Oregon during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. The Ducks, led by eighth-year head coach Dana Altman, played their home games at Matthew Knight Arena as members of the Pac–12 Conference. They finished the season 23–13, 10–8 in Pac-12 play to finish in a tie for sixth place. As the No. 6 seed in the Pac-12 tournament, they defeated Washington State in the first round and Utah in the quarterfinals before being defeated by USC in the semifinals. They received an invitation to the National Invitation Tournament, where they defeated Rider in the first round before losing to Marquette in the second round. Dana Altman
Dana Dean Altman (born June 16, 1958) is an American college basketball coach who is the head coach of the Oregon Ducks men's team. Previously he was head coach at Creighton, Kansas State and Marshall. Altman has won conference coach of the year awards at each school he has coached, and has led his teams to 15 appearances in the NCAA tournament. College education Dana Altman began playing college basketball at Fairbury Junior College (now Southeast Community College) in Fairbury, Nebraska. He earned an associate degree in business administration there in 1978. He then received his undergraduate degree in the same field at Eastern New Mexico University in 1980. Coaching career Marshall In his first NCAA Division I head coaching position, Altman became the head men's basketball coach at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia in 1989. 2016–17 NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Season
The 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season began on November 11, 2016. The first tournament was the 2K Sports Classic, and ended with the Final Four in Glendale, Arizona on April 3, 2017. Practices officially began on September 30, 2016. Rule changes The only rule change for the regular season was allowing coaches to ask for timeouts in situations of inbounds on offense or defense. Coaches are still not permitted to call timeouts in live-ball situations. The NCAA approved a number of experimental rule changes for use in the 2017 postseason NIT: * Team fouls were reset to zero at the 10:00 mark of each half. This effectively divided the game into quarters for purposes of team fouls. * The "one-and-one" foul shot was not used. Instead, starting with the fifth total foul in each 10-minute period, non-shooting fouls by the defensive team resulted in two free throws, with the only exception being administrative technical fouls. 2016–17 North Carolina Tar Heels Men's Basketball Team The 2016–17 North Carolina Tar Heels men's basketball team represented the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was head coach Roy Williams' 14th season. The Tar Heels played their home games at the Dean Smith Center as members of the Atlantic Coast Conference. In 2017, they earned their 6th NCAA National Championship by defeating Gonzaga in the championship game.
