2017–18 Motherwell F.C. Season
The 2017–18 in Scottish football, 2017–18 season was Motherwell F.C., Motherwell's thirty-third consecutive season in the top flight of Scottish football and the fifth in the newly established Scottish Premiership, having been promoted from the Scottish First Division at the end of the 1984–85 Scottish First Division, 1984–85 season. Motherwell also competed in the 2017–18 Scottish League Cup, League Cup and the 2017–18 Scottish Cup, Scottish Cup losing to Celtic F.C., Celtic in both finals Season Review On 2 June, Motherwell announced that they had signed Alex Fisher and Gaël Bigirimana, from Inverness Caledonian Thistle F.C., Inverness C.T. and Coventry City F.C., Coventry City respectively, on two-year contracts and that James McFadden had left the club. Motherwell (, ) is a town and former burgh in North Lanarkshire, Scotland, United Kingdom, south east of Glasgow. It has a population of around 32,120. Historically in the parish of Dalziel and part of Lanarkshire, Motherwell is the headquarters for North Lanarkshire Council. Geographically the River Clyde separates Motherwell from Hamilton to the west whereas the South Calder Water separates Motherwell from Carfin to the north-east and New Stevenston and Bellshill towards the north. Motherwell is also geographically attached to Wishaw and the two towns form a large urban area in North Lanarkshire, with both towns having similar populations and strong community ties. History A Roman road through central Scotland ran along Motherwell's side of the River Clyde, crossing the South Calder Water near Bothwellhaugh.
