2017–18 Mid-American Conference Women's Basketball Season
The 2017–18 Mid-American Conference women's basketball season began with practices in October 2017, followed by the start of the 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's basketball season in November. Conference play began in January 2018 and concluded in March 2018. Central Michigan won its second straight regular season title with a record of 17–1 by one game over Buffalo. Tinara Moore of Central Michigan was named MAC player of the year. Top-seeded Central Michigan won the MAC tournament by beating Buffalo 96–91 in the final. Buffalo was given an at large bid as the 11th seed in the Albany Region of the NCAA tournament where they scored wins over #19 South Florida 101–79 and #11 Florida State 86–65 before losing to second seeded #7 South Carolina in the Sweet Sixteen. Central Michigan also reached the Sweet Sixteen in the Spokane Region after defeating #24 LSU 78–69 and #10 Ohio State 95–78. They were knocked out by #6 Oregon. The 2017–18 Miami RedHawks women's basketball team represented Miami University during the 2017–18 NCAA Division I women's basketball season. The RedHawks, led by first year head coach Megan Duffy, played their home games at Millett Hall, as members of the East Division of the Mid-American Conference. Courtney Woods (basketball)
Courtney Woods (born 24 March 1997) is an Australian professional basketball player for the Townsville Fire of the Women's National Basketball League (WNBL). She played college basketball for the Northern Illinois Huskies before beginning her professional career in the WNBL in 2020 with the Fire. She won a WNBL championship with the Fire in 2023. In the NBL1 North, Woods won back-to-back championships in 2022 and 2023 with the Townsville Flames and Northside Wizards respectively. She was named NBL1 North Most Valuable Player for the 2023 season. Early life and career Woods grew up in Brisbane, Queensland, where she attended St Margaret's Anglican Girls' School. She played badminton, basketball and field hockey at St. Margaret's. Woods served as basketball captain in 2014, and her team enjoyed two premiership-winning seasons coached by her mother. Sue Guevara
Susan Marie Guevara (born July 8, 1954) is the former head women's basketball coach at Central Michigan University. She previously served as the head women's basketball coach at the University of Michigan from 1996 to 2003. Sue announced her retirement from CMU on July 12, 2019. Coaching career Guevara began her coaching career as an assistant at Saginaw Valley State in 1979. After five seasons, she became a graduate assistant at Ohio State in 1984, become becoming an assistant coach at Ball State in 1985. Guevara spent a decade as an assistant coach at Michigan State under Karen Langeland, including as associate head coach in the 1995–96 season. In 1996, Guevara became a head coach for the first time at Michigan. Stephanie Reid (born 22 July 1996) is an Australian basketball player for Sopron Basket of the EuroCup Women. Reid is a Women's National Basketball League Champion with the Townsville Fire in 2023, a NBL1 North Champion with the Townsville Flames in 2022 and has been a member of the Australia women's national basketball team (Australian Opals) since 2022.
